I access Strava mostly through the phone app (Android).  Several people that I'm connected with post in other languages. I would like to be able to translate and read what they post, but currently text copying is disabled in the app.  That is where the user does a long tap on a piece of text and then has the option of copying it to the clipboard.  Such a feature would make it a lot easier for me to communicate with my Strava connections.

Thanks for submitting your idea to copy text in the app, may I edit it to also include iOS to be more inclusive?

Of course!

Got my vote. Definitely needed on iOS as well, and for pretty much every single app out there while you’re at it 😆

@Soren My ask is taking this to another level.  Why require the user to copy paste to a 3rd party translator when you can build that into the product itself?  I understand consolidating requests but my request is probably the end state solution, IMO.

@struo1 I think copy is a great function in itself.  Translate is good too, but it requires another complex UI component, whereas copy-text is quite simple.  If there were a simple way to integrate clipboard/context menu with translate then that might be nice too, but I am generally a fan of a minimal and simple UI.

Please un-merge my last comment re translations - it affects the web version as well.

I'm not asking to be able to copy/paste text to an external translator - but rather a single "translate this" link that Strava would make a call out to a translation service and provide the translation itself.

Or automating translations from all languages other than, Eg, English and German.

Due to popular demand, we have separated this idea request and Translation for comments - which you can vote on separately.

Another reason why I only asked for select/copy text functionality is that (at least on Android) if you select a block of text then the standard OS dialog will ask if you want to translate it, so that is already there.  **bleep**, I'll add the feature myself.  Just give me access to the repo!

I agree that would be a good first step and probably a very easy one.  Second step is embedded translation.  It's a fairly straightforward ask.  Just a matter of priority.

There is already a comment context menu, with "Report" as the only choice. You could add Copy and/or Translate to this menu.
