I would like to propose the inclusion of skydiving and paragliding as recognized sports on the Strava platform. Presently, there's a notable absence of support for sky-related sports on Strava. By integrating skydiving and paragliding, Strava has the opportunity to attract new user base and broaden its range of activities. Even basic statistics such as heart rate and GPS coordinates would suffice initially.
I don't know what are we waiting for. Eveeryone has paraglide modality at his watch or app, and in strava I need to put windsurf or they cancel my activities.
Just allow paraglide and then add the 3D MAP together.
Anyone from Strava reading this and not familiar with paragliding should note that there are at least two separate paragliding activities being proposed in this thread. The first is ‘hike and fly’ which is analogous to something like backcountry skiing or skimo racing in that there are multiple activities involved (hiking / running and flying) which is done recreationally and in a race format—there is to my knowledge no app or website that comes close to offering a Strava-like product for this currently. The second is general flight logging, which is probably more in line with what a non paraglider expects paragliding to be—I guess this would be similar to what is offered by something like xcontest.org but better presented and with a social component etc.
Make it happen Strava! Free flying. I would totally pay for this. I currently log my hang gliding flights as hiking but in never registers the altitude correctly. I guess Strava tries to match terrain with gps altitude (as if you are hiking).
I keep recording my flights as kitsurf flights, just add new category, call it pataglidung, change the icon for it and that's it. Otherwise keep everything as in kitesurf - no much work ia needed, can be done as a low coplexity task by a junior developer in the next sprint.
Thanks for the tip @magomedov , but kitesurfing doesn't involve getting off the surface by much. We the flying community need the option to record altitudes (usually at thousands of feet), it's critical for flight recording.
@gliderflyer in my view, hight recording can be added later. At the moment I record my flights using xctrack (which has hight information in its tracks) and then upload it to Strava manually. Strava recognizes it and maps on the elevatoin chart. For example my flight from yesterday: https://www.strava.com/activities/11448512945
I just want it to be under "Paragliding" section. Simple 😉
