When training up for various races, I do different kinds of runs which I’d like to be able to track. Currently, the options I have are Race, Long Run, and Workout.

With this feature, I’d like to have the ability to set up custom types of run to better track the kind of workout run I did. For example, with this feature, I would track the following types:

  • Base / Easy
  • Recovery
  • Tempo
  • Intervals
  • Progression
  • Fartlek
  • Track

Long term, we can then use this data to quantify how much time we are spending in each run type which can then help determine over-training or just spending too much time in a specific type of workout.

Especially a generic "interval" type would be helpful to distinguish the (reason for a particular) performance in my opinion. I know intervals can be considered a workout, but I'd prefer to be more specific.

In addition, the checkbox for "commute" may be expanded with options such as marking a walk as "leisure" (when meandering with friends or family and not going for a pure point A to B walk) or "running errands" (not a commute, but walking from store to store, going for groceries or the pharmacy, etc).

Can we please have more "type of run" like "Recovery" "EasyRun" "Fartlek" "Tempo" "Park Run".

I do some easy Z2 runs from time to time and I would like to add "Easy Run" for example. 👍🏻

Hello everyone,

As a runner often participating in races, I decided recently to sign up as a volunteer for a few local running and walking events. The last time I volunteered at a 10k Walking event. Together with a fellow volunteer we were walking after the last contender and our task was to remove all the signs indicating the path. It was a great experience as I've met interesting people and made new acquaintances. It felt like giving something back to the running and walking community, as so many events rely mostly on the work of volunteers.

I've read and heard from many people that after the pandemic it became harder to find volunteers for sporting events, running included. I was wondering if it would be helpful to include a "Volunteering" among other type of runs, such as "Race", "Workout", "Long run", "Commute". It could help promote the volunteering and inspire other athletes to consider doing that.

Agree!  Sure is nice as a Subscriber to pull up the Training Log and be able to utilize the coloring/size of workout Circles to review and track training and races!  Similarly virtual rides/runs/walks/hikes/paddleboarding/kayaking/etc should get the same tags!!!   

For workouts keep the dashed lines... maybe some of thers just highlight the outside of the circle?  I mainly would like the Recovery tag option and a destinction of at least "Intervals/Speedwork" and "Threshold/Tempo" Workout runs.

I don't mean to be the grumble bum, but I've just renewed my subscription (again) and I wonder why.  A simple, but very useful request like this one has not been progressed.  None of my previous requests were ever actioned. Why do we bother? Grumble over, but I still have £50 of grumble left in the pot!

I was wondering how many people would be interested in an Easy Run or Recovery run option under the type of run drop-down. I would love to see all of my recovery runs and easy runs on the training log. If you select race as an option it colors it bright red as a dot on your log, but recovery or easy run could be a light blue or any other color to show that it was an easy run. Not every run is a workout or a long-run so i would just like to see them portrayed on my training log as the color of what they are

I had a similar idea this past weekend while volunteering to do trail maintenance. It would be great to further engage the Strava community, promote stewardship, and highlight the great work being done to maintain and expand access to the places we love to be active.

Additionally,  it was brought to my attention that many races are now requiring volunteering time as part of registration. One of the fellow volunteers was fulfilling his Trail Work requirement for the Tahoe Rim Trail Endurance Run.

In addition to there being a "Volunteer" tag for certain activities, perhaps it would be easier and most likely, more applicable to all sports and not just running and cycling to have a specific Volunteer colored map (similar to the current heart rate, temperature, surface type, etc).

In the 'Type of Run' there is a list of selections for 'Workout', 'Long Run', 'Commute' and 'Race'. Often a long run can also be a workout run with sections of tempo or intervals. Certain races can be used as workouts or counted as long runs.  Rather than having a radio button selection this should be checkboxes to allow multiple selection. 

In training log the dark green that represents long runs could also include the diagonal stripes which is used for workouts.

We all love the thrill of training for a new race, yet adult life sometimes gets in the way, and we have to change our schedule, miss a few runs and readjust. We do "race predictor" workouts once in a while, but so much can affect them: not enough sleep the night before, an emergency at work, etc. We cannot quantify exactly how much these things affect us, but luckily we can track other things on the way to race: the distance we ran in the training block, how much elevation, HR zones in the entire block, etc.

It would be super cool if we could track the amount of work that lead to a specific race with a specific tag.

Say for example we are preparing for our community 10k in 10 weeks. By tagging each workout as training block for "community run 10k 2023", we could analyse how much running we did, what workouts, distance, elevation, etc. And this could help us in future races on a similar distance and elevation, as we would see exactly not only the individual trainings, but the entire block up to the race.

 

The way I would see this feature is

  • tagging the workouts: another dropdown like the ones that are already there for the type of run (commute, training, race). So once the run has been uploaded from the app, from our Garmin or AW, etc, we could do Edit > select a training block or add a new one or leave it blank if the run wasn't linked to any specific plan.
  • visualizing the data: having a specific page similar to the one for individual activities, where we can see total mileage, heart rate by zones, power, etc all aggregated from the individual activities that compose the training block.
