Add Dog Walking as an activity type

I am sure I am not the only athlete who walks their dog most days, currently I have to edit to change walk to Walk Dog. If I walk I walk at a cracking pace, but, with my aging dog , lucky to make 2 mph. Anyone else think this would be a good add on.

Thanks for posting about this.  Could you clarify exactly what you are suggesting?  Are you asking that dog walking become it's own activity type on Strava?

We do have have an existing suggestion to add canicross type activities here.

I think a walk is a walk. When I run with my dog I also run slower than I otherwise would and make a lot of stops, yet I don't think it is a good idea to introduce a new Dog Run activity type. Should we also add a Dog Trail Run and a Dog Hike?

I understand some saying a walk is a walk. But to some people who do a walk for pace due to possibly many different reasons. (Ability and disability spring to mind) So dog walking good be a good activity for some to differentiate there activity and even track the amount of distance/time they are doing with there dog. Separate to say a walk by themselves or a friend etc.

Completely agree. I walk my dog most days, sometimes twice and have always thought ‘Dog Walk’ as an activity type should be there by now. Just like ‘commute’ for my ride to work!

I'd love to see a map type for dog walking. Just some paw prints where the line segment is would be a fun way to denote a walk as a dog walk. This could be tied (or not) to setting the activity sub-type, ie commuting, workout, long run, dog walk.
