Can rucking be added to list of activities/sport. It’s not the same as walking or hiking 🙂 thanks!

Hiking is generally considered a walk in the woods... Rucking, on the other hand, is generally heavy weight training while moving. Much like the difference between road cycling (road and gravel), mountain biking, and  ebiking, or running (road or trail). Not at all the same!

How have they not added this option yet?  Please do it Strava. Can’t be hard

Adding rucking as a category or at least different weight options in current categories is a must for me. I will become a paid subscriber the moment that's implemented. Until then, the idea of purchasing the subscription is not something of value to me.

Rucking is very common and is a separate activity. Please add it in Strava.

How many votes does this need to happen?

Hello Strava,

Tons of people are asking for rucking to be added. Why won’t anyone respond to us? Please let us know. Thank you

It could help if people go into their workouts and change the description.  I edit mine from hike to ruck.  Assuming the software developers can see all the activities, maybe they’ll take the request more seriously.

Long time Rucker, new to Strava.  Love the metrics here, but it’s disheartening to see the call to action with no response from the developers.
The relative effort is useless when comparing a “walk” to heavy ruck mile for time.

Please, add Rucking and/or weighted options for walking activities!

Time, distance, and elevation are the exact same variables as a hike or trail run... But weight carried is a huge variable that can differ from ruck to ruck with a significant impact on pace, calories, heart rate, training load, etc.

I, too, was a paid subscriber. When I ran, I loved the metrics that Strava reports. But now that I only ruck, I have absolutely no reason to subscribe until the key metrics that I am interested in are tracked and reported in a meaningful way.

Adding Rucking as an activity is long overdue, as it is increasing in popularity. I would even say it's probably more popular than some activities that Strava has listed - I'm looking at your Table Tennis 🙂

Did my ruck this morning. Would love to introduce the ruck community to Strava to help grow the app…

Back here again to ask for rucking, or more generally, an option to add weight to a hike or walk. This would also help backpackers, who carry heavy packs.

What will it take, Strava, to finally respond to these ongoing requests? I’ve worked in tech, and it’s very disappointing to not even see a company response in a thread that has been going on so long. Do you not read these comments? Do we need to contact customer support? Post on your Instagram page? What will it take to at least get a response?

This shouldn’t be technically hard. You already have an option to add equipment and weight in other sports: for example, in biking, you can add a bike, and you can enter the weight. Why not just apply that same code to hiking & walking - add a pack & weight? (There’s probably hidden complexity on how to calculate the additional calories from a heavier pack vs. a heavier weight - but if this is hard for a reason we can’t see, can you at least share it with us so we understand?)

I know there’s a stack of customer features you have to weigh against each other, but clearly, here’s a big community that’s quite passionate, and a solution that is not technically challenging, so the ROI should be there. Many of us have been Strava users for a long time and are paying for your service - please help us stay excited advocates:

Please respond to us on this request!

I’m curious to see what others think but it may be simple as adding “backpack” into gear. Then “Hiking” would possibly still work out.

Much like when I ride my heavy bike (and pull a bike trailer loaded)I have my bike gear set for 100+ pounds, and the watts appropriately increases.

Hi Strava!  I am a member of a couple of rucking communities, and we need your help in including "Ruck" as an activity.  Right now, some members use "Hike," whereas others use "Walk."  Both are for valid reasons by the members, but it creates consistency issues when doing challenges.

It seems this could be an easy addition, and the rucking communities that use Strava would love it!

To expand on my comment...

For most, rucking is an intentional fitness program that involves at a minimum carrying a weight backpack (or plate carrier) but could also including carrying extra weight by switching plates, adding a sandbag, etc.  Rucks are also done everywhere, paved or not.

Hike is for most a more leisurely experience in nature where you are on a trail, open country, mountain paths.  Its a different emotional experience for lots of people.

While adding a weight option to hiking is a great add idea, rucking really needs to be its own category as the goals are generally different.
