This was suggested in August of last year, but I haven't seen any further discussion or movement.  Currently, the only way to show elapsed time on something like a run, is to mark it as a "race".  The timing data is already there in the analysis portion of the activity, so it's just a matter of giving the user the option to use that vice "moving time".

Hi @pahanela

Thanks for your post. I think the root cause of this is that you're recording you swim activities with the Strava Mobile App on your phone - the Strava phone Apps don't support swim recording.  Apologies for any confusion over this.

Please refer to this article for more information and helpful tips.

Hi @Jane,

Thank you for your reply. It comes as a surprise to me that Strava doesn't support swim recording. From the perspective of GPS recording, open water swimming is no different from other cyclic sports, such as biking or running; the only difference is that it is significantly slower.

Hence, my question is: what needs to be done to support swimming?

Hello @pahanela

Apologies for any confusion. Swimming is supported on Strava, and you can record swimming activities with both the Strava Apple Watch App and the Strava Wear OS App, as well as many third party devices that sync to Strava.

Hi @Jane,

Thank you for the update. I want to highlight that tracking open-water swimming activity with a smartphone inside the safety buoy is the best technical solution. Smartwatches are underwater for approximately half the stroke cycle time, whereas the buoy is always above the water, providing reliable and uninterruptible GPS signal tracking.

Hi @pahanela

Thank you for reporting the problem. I record my activity with a Polar Grit X Pro (Watch) and have the same problem. Moving time while swimming in open water should be the same as elapsed time, or at least based on GPS.

The idea of recording the session in the buoy is actually really good, thank you for that 👍

Hi @steevevchristen,

Thank you for your input and acknowledgment. Hopefully, stakeholders will notice it.

Definitely support the change, it is otherwise not possible to compare two efforts on the same training, as stopping is part of it and should be counted for

Noticed today that moving time is 20s faster than garmins moving time. All I know is that I did do 5k but not as fast as Strava would have me believe. Show us elapsed time.

Totally!

I'd like my feed to default to average elapsed time.

On inspection I've seen average elapsed paces that are nearly three times the average moving pace.

Not including periods where people stop is like me saying I can deadlift my bodyweight for 50 reps because I'm not counting rest breaks, very misleading.

Another vote for this feature. Allow (or make default) ELAPSED time, rather than moving time. Either make this global, or make it customizable by user or by activity type. Maybe I want all my hikes to be elapsed time and all my bikes to be moving time. But I certainly do NOT want to mark activities as races just to get elapsed time shown on the activity's feed/view. THANK YOU.

Absolutely mysteffied that this incredibly simple and much requested option still hasn't been added.
