It's 2022 and most apps have Dark Mode nowadays. It might be a bit weird to use Strava when not working out... But looking at the segments the night before to plan out the next run is a thing. Please make us literally lose less sleep when doing this, or when recording an activity in the evening.

This has consistently been the top request on reddit.com/r/strava

@smartyn13r whether they are listening or not, there is one very certain thing, we are getting ignorred. What makes it worse is we are getting ignorred without any reasonable explanation why.

There may be a good reason, but being very secretive about it makes me feel there is no good reason. If it is so, then I do not understand.

Has Strava not considered the safety concerns of not having dark mode? Especially for night riders, having a bright light in your eyes reduces forward visibility. This feature would be more welcomed than the trophy case that many people don’t even realize they have let alone care to look at. It’s common sense for UX at this point. Do the right thing, listen to your customers, quit gaslighting.

A shame we’re getting stuff we don’t need like the Spotify connection thing and this is continuing to be ignored. I will be letting my subscription end in a few weeks until Strava adds simple functionality their user base actually could make use of. I recently got into the Garmin ecosystem which offers me everything Strava does besides the social aspect, love that their app is natively dark.

If Strava is like a tech company I used to work for, the engineers building features are likely not very active users and don’t have as much insight on what actual users would enjoy. It’s a shame there aren’t any Product Managers who could demonstrate to the team why there are thousands of people who would make use of this. I’m sure more people will switch to dark mode vs connect Spotify to their account when doing an activity (I imagine most people will continue doing what they’ve always done, running the two apps at same time lol).

Anyway, imagine this post like the others will continue to be ignored by staff, but just wanted to share my experience.

Please get dark mode.... This is the only app which doesn't have one and is a pain on the eye when doing a night time ride... Drains battery if we use mobile to record...

Strava, please divert resources from other projects to create dark mode. It should not take much time or resources to do this. Nearly every app has this feature and especially health apps, as the bright white background affects users sleep.

If there is a browser extension meantime we wait hopefully not forever for dark mode.
Please post somewhere in comment.

@Timco please reconsider your dismissal of dark mode. I’m a paid subscriber who is considering abandoning Strava because of eye fatigue at night while planning routes. Many more people than who take the time to comment truly care about this issue. Reddit is also covered with discussion on this.

In 2023 basic functionality must include dark mode, especially in health related apps. I and many others who don’t comment cannot imagine how this is being dismissed and not on your immediate radar for the future either.

This thread receives action almost on a weekly basis, yet the only responses that we receive from Strava are either “sorry, it’s not in our roadmap,” or “give us polite feedback and be nice.” Where is the explanation as to why they don’t feel like this is an important feature when it is to so many of their users? I’d wager over 30% of the user-base would activate dark mode upon release. What other features are they working on that will likely receive as much engagement? Classic example of when a company refuses to listen to its audience. We’re literally giving Strava a golden recommendation that is better than the majority of its recent updates. Logic out the window.

Strava’s stance on this makes you seriously question the meaningfulness of voting on new features, and the value of the Community Hub as a whole. This is far and away the most requested feature on here, with ∞ number of votes, which makes Strava’s nonchalance about having no intention to implement it shocking.

Along with their uncompromising obstinacy in rounding all distances down, it just goes to show that in the end, their philosophical stances (“being right”) are far more important to them than having happy users.

On that topic, anyone who’s used Strava long enough will remember how many years it took to finally start showing distances with 2 decimals. Back then, not only did you not complete that 5k, you only ran 3.0 miles. If making users feel bad about themselves isn’t a major concern to Strava, you can be sure that a “cosmetic” change like Dark Mode will never get implemented.

That's funny - infinite kudos. Actually it's 523 but yes, this is the #1 idea on Top Ideas. It is really astounding how the answer from Strava could  be so dismissive. @Timco your users are speaking to you. Paid subscribers like myself are going to reconsider resubscribing due to this (also the attitude, not just this particular feature). Please reconsider.

I'm grappling with a serious medical condition that triggers severe migraines, and Strava's white screen with no alternative for dark mode is genuinely detrimental to my health. For several years, my wife, friends and I have faithfully subscribed to their services. However, when I approached the Strava community with a request for a dark mode feature, as per their established procedure, I found myself facing an unexpected ban. My request was candid, serious, and reasonable, advocating for a feature that would enable me to continue utilizing the application without harming my health.

Strava's refusal to accommodate a minor change in their application, which could vastly improve its accessibility to those with certain medical conditions, can be construed as discriminatory. It's disappointing that they're not considering their user's diverse health needs.

Enclosed is a screenshot of my ban from this community, which, regrettably, is still enforced months later.

In light of Strava's unresponsiveness and apparent lack of empathy, it's probably unsurprising that they've lost many dedicated subscribers from our group. Strava's indifference and inaction is not just disheartening—it's unacceptable.

I too would like dark mode asap. Seems like Strava is too busy trying to reinvent the wheel to look out for a what should be basic standard tech like dark mode.

It's ironic because around 2014/2015 time period strava app *was* dark, and then they switched to light mode!

@nm  OMG!! Indeed STRAVA already had dark mode when nobody knew what dark mode actually was.
