Delayed publishing of activities for added security

I was on holiday cycling and walking last week but I didn't want to publish my activities immediately and tell the world "I'm not at home, come break into my house". I could have recorded activities as 'private' and made them 'public' on my return but that's just too much faffing for my liking. So I started thinking about a new feature for this - holiday/away/stealth mode where activities don't go public until a specific date? An option to delay publishing by a fixed time when you complete the activity? A bit like an out-of-office setup.

I also started thinking about the difference between sharing with 'followers' and 'friends', they aren't really the same thing at all. If there was an option to classify contacts in those two categories it could further enhance personal security - I trust my friends, I don't know my followers in the same way. The above delayed publishing could publish to 'friends' until the specified date - this would allow for group holiday sharing until going public.

We wanted to let you know that your idea submission regarding delaying publishing of activities from September of 2022 will be archived. While this idea is interesting, we don’t have any immediate plans to implement this and currently aren’t able to prioritize this idea.

The workaround we recommend is to change your privacy settings so all activities upload by default as only visible to you.  You can then edit and change the privacy settings of the activity at your convenience if you want to share the activity publicly or with your Followers.
