As a Strava athlete I use to plan my bicycle routes in advance. When planning routes it should be really nice if wind data was displayed on the map when searching for routs.

  • wind should be displayed with live forecast with a gradient like the heat map on the route, based on the m/s and the route direction and likely headwind.
  • visible on saved routes or suggested regarding todays forecast and the routes directions.

Brilliant idea!

If Strava implements this, I see no more reason to use Komoot premium for many people, who would join Strava premium instead for the added features.

Hi, one of the most important things to a cyclist when planning a ride is the weather forecast--for hydration planning, choosing what to wear, even the route itself. Currently, there isn't a very slick way of integrating info on route planning and weather forecast. The OpenSnow weather app is a very innovative app and useful for athletes year round--I like it enough to pay for an annual subscription. I use it daily, at least, for my cycling plans. It would be so cool to be able to integrate the locations on a route to give a weather forecast for that route. For example, one of the map layers could be the route on top of the temp/wind/lightning forecast layer; also, it could pick off points along the route and give a written forecast for different locations with temp/wind direction & speed/precip forecast/weather alerts. I do this by hand, figuring out the route and then looking on the weather map; but it would be super helpful for athletes, race planners, etc. to have it more automated by connecting the apps and being able to refresh the same route over and over to update as weather conditions change. Currently the OpenSnow app allows one to pick custom locations and mark them as "Favorites" and they can provide a forecast for any GPS location on a map. Maybe OpenSnow just needs to be able to upload GPX files as a layer; but I think Strava + OpenSnow teaming up would be more powerful.

This would be fine if Strava accessed reliable weather data, but I think whoever they get it from just licks a finge and holds it up to the air. It is typically incorrect for our region, and many runners I know in other parts. I’m one of many who’ve actually disabled the weather reporting on activities, as I just got sick of saying ‘Strava got the weather completely wrong again’.
