Under segments compare there's the choice to see times and ranks against a filter of age, followers and the like and there's a today filter which is really useful for seeing how you and your buddies did on a section, however, it would be HUGELY useful if there was a filter by date option even if you could select a specific date going only back a few days. Ideally we could be able to select an unlimited date range for eg. The weekend of *>*

People create new duplicating segments all the time regardless.

A possible solution for Strava is to tighten the segment matching criteria so that a trail rerouting doesn't lead to inclusion of old results that were on an old trail. Modern GPS devices are much better than they were a decade ago, so perhaps having a huge matching radius is no longer appropriate.

@Jana_S - Who would get to be the one to determine when a "fresh start date" is needed?  If it's up to the users, then you will have the issue I mentioned above.  Any time some John Doe feels something changed, they will start a new leaderboard.  Will you then have multiple historical leaderboards, one for each past change?  Seems like a mess.  The idea itself isn't all that bad, but for it to be done with any legitimacy, it would require a lot of oversight/controls that make it prohibitive.

@Silentvoyager - True, so let's not give them another reason to make a bunch more duplicates.

It's good that the original idea was spoken of as being optional.  But, I don't particularly like it.  I've achieved at least two KOM's this way... by somebody creating a segment years after I did an effort on that road without knowing it would ever amount to anything but a training ride.  If I saw I wasn't included in the leaderboard, I'd probably be angry at Strava and/or open a help desk ticket.  A lot of what management does or doesn't do is probably centered around that... preventing disgruntled customers and easing the helpdesk burden.  For that reason, I suspect this won't be taken up.
