Granular permissions for Activities and which Followers (esp being able to exclude some followers)

Right now we can make an activity 'private', 'followers only' or 'everyone'.

I'd like to see more granular permissions for the "followers" category, where we can further break that down into groups we create - and even have a group where we can add users we want to exclude.

Basically, the same way Facebook lets you decide who can see your posts, so for example, be able to do something like "All followers except those on the exclude list"

There are many reasons why someone might want to do this, perhaps they are training for something very competitive and don't want ALL their workouts shown to their followers. Or perhaps they are working out on their lunch break but it could get misunderstood that they are skipping work for a workout and don't want their work colleagues seeing those workouts, or a myriad of other reasons.

This is different from outright blocking a follower. It would only hide certain activities from those excluded or not part of the default groups you create.

It would be nice to be able to choose a handfull amount of Strava users to see your activities. For example, right now there is no option in between showing all of your activities to everyone, or only to yourself. Maybe you only want to your closest followers to see your trainings but others to also se your competition results. Also for more competitive users, they can by this setting choose to only show their activities to his coaches and results to all others. For example, Elias Kipchoge could be able to load all of his trainings on Strava, but only have the option to show them to his coaches (or what people he choose to show), while them can show his 1:59 marathon to all others on Strava. With the settings right now he is only able to show activities to EVERYONE OR ONLY HIMSELF, nothing in between.

please feel free to comment if you have any questions.

Couldn’t said it better myself! Make this happen, I need this! Really so hope this happens in the future, then Strava is completely perfect!

famous athletes tend to post way more activities than friends giving the feel of spamming your feed. although I'm in fact interested in their activities, I'd still like to see my friends activities without scrolling a lot. one nice way would be to split followed athletes into categories, such as friends and public figures. this way I don't loose contact to my friends, but can turn to public figures whenever I like.

Granular permissions like this would be great for selectively protecting sensitive information like Privacy Zones, activity start times, and the gear or recording device used on an activity.

Let's hope that improved privacy features are on the roadmap as Ithis would be a great feature to have!

I think the ability to exclude some people from seeing your every activity without unfollowing them or blocking them is really important.

Also important is being able to turn off instant notifications from people who are following (stalking) you.

My partner spoke to a guy at a race just once and he has favourited her, commented "can't wait to meet you again ❤️", and is all over her like a rash and has turned on instant notifications for her, so the moment after she runs he is instantly there.

There are mutual friends so she thinks an unfollow is a bit tricky, but being able to stop the instant notifications he has turned on for her would be very useful.

We already have the option to favorite different followers of ours. Why just don’t make one more option regarding activity privacy that shows “favorites only”. With that meaning that just a handful of people, that you self has picked will be able to view your activities and posts.

Can’t be so hard to program this, and I don’t see any reason why this would be a bad feature.

give this a judo if you think the same.

@LilBoat’s suggestion ☝🏼 is the most obvious solution, low-friction, and a no-brainer, in my opinion. Many other social platforms use the same implementation, so it should be very intuitive to most users.

Please expand the friend sharing capabilities to include a more selective way of sharing activities. The way it’s setup now is essentially an all or nothing choice.  At times when I am not as frequently active I would like to have the ability to share my sporadic activities with close family/friends rather than all my followers. So, I would like to hide my activities except for the specific people I choose.  As it stands I either share with all my followers or no one. This is very restrictive.  Thank you! PA

Adding my upvote to the list of comments - this would be a really great feature to have, for all the reasons mentioned in the OP. Please consider adding this functionality to an already great platform, making it even better!

Please implement this. The current method of totally blocking someone (and working with them or bumping into them at a race) or setting the activity to private for everyone is really restrictive.

I'd like the option to share some activities with only a small circle of friends at times. Most of the time I'd post to everyone in my subscriber list, but some places I ride I'd like to keep it more private with only a few trusted friends. It would also be cool if the segment leader boards were limited to just the people in this special group and no one else.

Thanks!
