I am a Type 1 diabetic (T1D). During my activities, I constantly check my glucose numbers on my watch. When the number drops, I add fuel to my system (fast-acting gel or grape juice). When my run is complete, I can see my glucose numbers for every 15 mins of activity on my Dexcom app. When I look at my activity in Strava, I can see several health and activity metrics see the picture below. What I would like to see are my glucose numbers. With those numbers, I can determine when my number begins to drop based on heart rate, pace, elevation, and even time of day.

I hope this idea is considered; It would greatly help millions of T1D athletes and save us hours trying to figure out how to download Strava raw data and combine it with Dexcom raw data. Which, by the way, I have not been able to achieve.

Thanks for submitting your idea about including glucose data in your activity uploads. It has been reviewed by our moderation team and is now open to voting.

If possible, it would be great to also show live glucose readings directly from dexcom on the strava app

This would be fantastic, and make understanding how the our sugar levels react to exercise. I would actually feel safer with this feature

This would be great! I can connect Dexcom readings to my Samsung Health as of today and this would be a nice feature for Strava 👌

This would be fantastic but not just for dexcom, also for the freestyle libre from Abbott. There is a third party app for the freestyle libre called juggluco which has a bunch of features which might make it easier to integrate with strava. I'm happy to assist with this process if needed.

Yes please do this!

Great idea. Garmin already does this. And it is not a difficult task to add the already available data from dexcom api.

I would love this feature.  Either the ability to see the data after my activity is completed or during it.  Ideally during it, but after it would allow me to analyze the activity and figure out if I needed to change or adjust my food intake at certain times or types of activity segments.

Dexcom provides the API so it should be able to integrate this.

Hi,

has this been implemented now?

I use the Libre2 sensor which is very common on the NHS for type 1 diabetics and also with the Zoe app.
Strava could collect data from the app or Inalso use gluroo with nightguard which could share the data.

As a Type 1 diabetic for over 35 years, and someone who has been looping with Dexcom G6, AAPS, and Dana i pump for almost 2 years, I’ve been exploring ways to incorporate my glucose data into my cycling activities on Strava. I am particularly interested in comparing my glucose levels with my heart rate and power output during workouts.

Many Type 1 diabetics, like myself, use Nightscout to document daily glucose data. To streamline the process and avoid the technical challenges of embedding glucose data directly into fit files, I propose a solution that links Nightscout data with Strava activities.

Proposed Solution

Objective: Integrate Nightscout glucose data with Strava activities to provide a comprehensive view of exercise performance and glucose levels.

Implementation Overview:

  1. Activity Upload:

    • When a new activity is uploaded to Strava, a trigger initiates the process of fetching the corresponding glucose data from Nightscout.
  2. Data Fetching:

    • The system extracts the time frame of the uploaded activity.
    • Using this time frame, it pulls glucose data from Nightscout for the exact duration of the activity.
    • If the glucose data is not immediately available (e.g., due to lack of a mobile connection), the system will periodically check and update the data later.
  3. Data Visualization:

    • The fetched glucose data is integrated into the Strava activity analysis.
    • Users can view their glucose levels as a line graph within the "analysis" section of their Strava activity.

Technical Note:

  • The link to fetch glucose data might look like this:
    https://nightscout-url/?token=strava-9935fe39b35adaaf&start_time={activity_start}&end_time={activity_end}

By implementing this integration, athletes with Type 1 diabetes can gain better insights into how their glucose levels fluctuate during exercise, helping them manage their condition more effectively.

Already integrated to Garmin connect. Just for a reference.

It's great that Garmin has already integrated this option. However, the goal here is to find a solution that works for everyone, regardless of the platform they use. Not everyone uses Garmin. For example, Wahoo only supports Supersapiens, and it's unclear to me, if the glucose data is even recorded into the fit file.

Why on earth has this not been implemented yet?

I'm currently in the process of figuring out what devices to purchase for the ultimate health tracking experience.

Personally for me being a UK customer, I'm interested in one of the 4 apps that integrate into my NHS record which Strava is one of them.

I have had had Fitbit with their flagship sense 2 which does do this but Fitbit is very limited.

Thinking of getting a mobvoi tickwatch pro 5 as it works on Strava - or so I'm lead to believe. This watch is supposed to be great at sleep tracking with the sleep as android app. Only other 2 components I'm after is the continuous blood sugar tracking component and smart scale data.

I haven't looked at the smart scale capabilities with Strava but can't imagine that Strava doesn't have something in this department.

I hear a lot of great things about Garmin but unfortunately the don't integrate with my NHS profile.

Whichever app has all of these will surely dominate this market.

I've been using this after I ran from the health app on my phone. I'm still hoping someone at Strava will reach out and ask me one day. I will even write the epic and the stories if it will get it done.

I totally agree with the proposal. Some communication between Abbott and Strava could help in the development of the data link. Data is power, and being able to understand our glucose fluctuations during hard exercise sessions will be a blessing for us.
