Unfortunately cheating on Strava segments seems to be fairly common. Suggestion for cycling activties is to require a heart rate monitor and power meter to an obtain a leaderboard ranking. For running, etc., require a heart rate monitor. At a minimum, a heart rate monitor for activites would be a step in the right direction. This would help maintain the integrity of Strava. Segments are a big feature of Strava and I think everything should be done to keep them as legit as possible. However I often see people riding ebikes but don't know/care about setting the correct type of their activity once uploaded. Since it defaults to classic bike (non assisted), it leads to pollution of the leaderboards with performances achieved only thanks to the assistance.  To address this issue I suggest the following :   Make segment leaderboards accessible only to rides with a selected "gear" (bike) Make ebike an option of the gear setup : it is either an ebike or it is not. No one seriously rides an ebike with the motor turned off 100% of the time, setting it per-ride makes no sense. Use the ebike (on or off) flag of the selected gear (bike) to set the correct activity type upon upload (bike or ebike).  If the gear is changed on an existing activity, flag it accordingly (ebike or regular). If the user want's to change an existing gear from "ebike" to "classic bike", at least ask for a solid confirmation as this is most likely someone trying to be outsmart the system... The idea behind this is to not rely on the user's good will to set the correct activity type for each upload. It would make things automatic, given the initial action of creating the gear. If none is selected/created, then we can assume that the user does not care that much about performance, and has no interest in leaderboards anyways. In the end both ebikes and regular bikes segment leaderboards would make more sense to people who actually care about them, without making things any harder for users. P.S I have nothing against ebikes, they're fantastic but deserve their own separate leaderboards as in any bike race allowing both types of bikes ! ... View more

To me Strava is primarily about motivation and KOM gongs/trophies are a big part of this. As you get older it gets harder to compete for overall KOM/QOM gongs. So it would be good to have age group gongs, i.e. top 10 in age group. ... View more

Strava leaderboards for Queen of the Mountain & King of the Mountain are stale, and many of them hold absolutely untouchable records made by unusual participants in events. (a good example is a pro peloton riding through the local hillclimb with a favorable tailwind — no amateur will ever be in the top-10 again.) My request is an all-time leaderboard, and to make KOM/QOM awards annual. You were the fastest this year? Perfect! Your name is the one that will appear as KOM on the segment. As an added benefit, there could be an additional section of the Trophy Case for winning QOM/KOM trophies for a year. This would freshen up leaderboards on many of the world's most important and major segments, making them more accessible and reigniting competition each year, rather than relegating the leaderboards to yesteryear or having to filter to find the "This Year" results (which just isn't as exciting). ... Activity flagging and the idea of community moderation works fairly well, but there are always ways to improve it.  Here are a few ideas to consider or where I feel the current system is lacking in some form: 1.) Reset people's ability to flag activities at midnight, local time.  Currently, it is set up to reset 24 hours after the last flag was applied, which means you are always guessing when you will be allowed to flag another activity the next day.  There is no indicator telling you whether or not you will be able to flag an activity until after you have gone through the entire process and try to submit it, only to find out that you are still temporarily blocked.  This is a big waste of time.  Just reset it at the same time every day so it is obvious.  Another idea is to have some type of counter showing how many flags you have remaining in a day and/or when they will reset.  A note when you apply a flag that states something like "You have 5 flags remaining today" and/or "Your flagging ability will reset at 8:00am EST on XX/XX/XXXX." 2.) Nominate or allow local ambassadors who have more liberal flagging limits or abilities.  These people can be ones who submit an application and can be vetting by the location of the bulk of their activities over the past X number of years.  This will greatly help to clean up segments if someone is willing AND ABLE to flag more than 5 or 10 activities at a time.   3.) Have a graduated limit to flags per day.  The more active the person is on Strava, the more flags they are allowed.  New members only get maybe 3 or 5 as a limit, but long-standing members get up to 100 (or whatever number works best).  These limits can be reduced if it is shown that they are abusing the system, determined by a percentage of flags applied that get overruled or otherwise proven incorrect. ... Sometime you want to create a segment which is are a loop. However, if you don't start this loop exactly at the same location, you won't be compared to other athletes. It would be great if strava could detect that a segment is a loop and allow comparison between activities, whatever the starting point ... View more

I feel as though there should be a category and koms based on type of bike chosen in profile. EBike, Mtn Bike, Gravel, Road.  I am getting an ebike and the comments have already started about if my ride posts will be valid since it may take a KOM of another rider. Until fixed I will keep these rides private so I do not get any negative comments but adding the category would remove the issue.  ... View more

So I keep running into a GREAT problem and I wanted to see if it was something anyone may already be working on.  In Summit County, CO (and countless other areas) trail-building and re-routing has become a fairly BIG business. This is AMAZING for our environment but has at least one major drawback in coordination with STRAVA's platform. Currently you can make all the new segments you would like, but if a historical run is 'close' enough to the new trails path, it counts. I propose an option when adding/creating new segments to select a 'reroute'. This would then essentially allow the creator to add a 'start date' or 'trail completion date' to limit the leaderboards from searching and finding historical data from before the update to the trail was complete. i.e. Hattie's Trail (Frisco, CO) reroute was just finished. The reroute allows the trail to be ridden both up and down, rather than almost entirely down. Almost 1/2 a mile of trail was added via switchbacks and flow. Obviously old statistics from the 'straighter' trail will be much different than those from the reroute.  Just a thought.. hope its helpful! ... View more

Under segments compare there's the choice to see times and ranks against a filter of age, followers and the like and there's a today filter which is really useful for seeing how you and your buddies did on a section, however, it would be HUGELY useful if there was a filter by date option even if you could select a specific date going only back a few days. Hello, When you check one of the segment's leaderboards, you see your position compared to the others, but it could also be nice to show it in the form of an histogram (frequential distribution of the times of everyone and where you stand in there). Adding one histogram inside of each leaderboard (or at least the "All" one) would provide interesting information on if you're part of the most common times or no. We already have such information in the Local Legend feature, with an histogram showing the number of efforts. Here is an example of what it could look like:  It is important to me because I don't feel it's enough to know if I'm in the Top X people of the segment, I would also like to know where most of the people stand and see where I stand in this gaussian distribution. It could be seconds per seconds, but that would make a lot of bars. So maybe say that one bar represents all the people in an X seconds range, with X being a percentage of the segment time. Ten year age bands are fine for younger athletes but as you get older these bands need to be narrower (suggest 5 years) to allow for the more rapid degradation in performance expected at this age. Surely a 64 year old can’t be expected to compete at the same level as a 55 year old. So perhaps after the 45 to 55 band it should go to 55 - 60 and 5 year increments thereafter. ... View more

Please add this robust list of water/paddling sports to Activities. The below grouping of athletes often train together and/or use the same courses, yet only a couple categories are dominating because the times for each sport varies dramatically. Allowing each category to train In the same waters while each getting on the leaderboards in their respective sports, opens the door for a more cohesive and stronger paddling community. Win/win for all! As Strava usefully records distances per bike (under Profile), this feature could be maximised by enabling segment times to be selected (differentiated) on bike (type) used. I have a road bike have also used a touring bike which means that if I have ridden my road bike along the same segment as the touring bike, all the times for the touring bike are effectively irrelevant (always beaten by my faster road bike). At the moment when viewing the list of attempts per segment it is not even possible to see which bike was used for each attempt. Furthermore, it would be very useful to extend the "per bike" functionality as a Search criterion or column in the My Activities menu (this feature is already possible in Garmin Connect). ... If I am looking at someone else's activity on the iOS mobile app, and tap into a Segment they matched with, I only see my own position on the leaderboard. If I have no times on that segment, then I see just the Top 10, which isn't very useful information. This does not match the user's expectation - since I am looking at my friend's activity, I should be able to see their rank on the leaderboard, along with my own to see our relative positions on the leaderboard. This feature would help me know how to encourage my friend (eg, they were in the top 1% of people on the segment, I could shout that out; if they were #11, I'd tell them to work harder next time..) Note that this information is available on Desktop Web - on a friend's activity, I can see their position on a segment's leaderboard, and compare it to my own. ... View more

It would be cool to get a notification when someone gets a new segment KOM in any of your starred segments and/or any segment in which you're holding a top 10 spot. I think it would be an extra encouragement to those in the top 10 to give kudos on the activity and maybe have a go at the KOM themselves, but also it's a nice reward for the new KOM to have their achievement sent to more than just the dethroned KOM. ... I ride similar segments to my friends.... we compete, we mock each other etc etc, all in all - its great fun... Recently i did a ride and got 60+ PR's. I realized there was a feature missing (for me, and so maybe for others) I wanted to be able to see where i stand against a few of my friends on the segments i just rode. There are a lot of segments on a 2-3 hour ride. I know i can open each segment, select who i follow, to see where i am, but to do that 70 times! It's a killer. Then, when asked which segment i beat them, i don't want to go through them all again. Even when its not a high number, say 4 medals, I realized it a comparison i do a lot and its a lot of clicking to get the result. I would like to be able to select a "who i am following comparison" and then see in one table all the segments i just rode and where i am against the people I follow who have ridden the same segment.  I imagine the table looks like this: Segment Name 1st place 2nd place 3rd place 4th place etc etc                         Maybe it already exists, and I can't find it? ...
