Please create a new sport type for activities to be logged as
1: Spin Bike (peloton / nordictrack, etc)
2: Trainer Bike (Non Smart)

Strava doesn't allow "dumb" trainer activities to be logged as Virtual because to be counted as virtual they must have fake GPS data (or maybe it's because of a sweet zwift partnership).

Understandably, virtual rides that mimic real world gps data shouldn't compete with those leaderboard, because yes, they are different, there is no traffic, wind, etc... That's why virtual rides shouldn't be categorised as rides. I don't understand the argument that non-gps virtual rides shouldn't be counted as virtual rides, since they lack gps data, they're not going to be competing on segments. This argument works in one direction, but that doesn't make it work in the other.

Anyways, I've seen many having issues since Strava made this blanket rule, so if you are unwilling to allow non-gps trainer and virtual rides count as such, can you please create a separate sport type for basic-trainers, and for spin bikes?

One if the limitations of spin bikes is that they don’t always have a native sync with Strava.  I use Apple Watch data for heart rate and time, but if course it has no distance or elevation.
Most bikes do report this local to the device, so what is also needed is a way to manually add the missing data fields to the activity.
I suggest this is via the Edit function which could present an option to add manually created data fields.

I'd like to add my support to this idea. For me, I'd like my bike to be my default gear for outdoor rides but not when I use my Peloton. For certain challenges, you can still aggregate outdoor rides, indoor rides, virtual rides, etc. For me the primary goal is automatically distinguishing when I'm using a "regular" bicycle vs. indoor spin bike.

Making virtual ride available again for non-gps indoor rides would be the preferred solution, but having an activity type “indoor ride” would also work. This would allow me to add the correct default bike, the one that I usually use on my trainer, and is different from the one I use for normal outdoor rides.

Hello and thank you to everyone who has taken the time to add your votes and comments to this request.

We want to let you know that we do not intend to add more activity/sport types to Strava in the foreseeable future, and this feature suggestion will be moved to a status of not currently planned.

We appreciate and understand this is not the answer you were hoping for. We strive to be as transparent as possible and provide updates to our Community when they become available.

Please remember that we receive a large number of idea submissions, and even some  popular ideas may not make it to the implementation stage. The number of votes an idea gets is one factor among several that’s considered when our product team develops the roadmap.

For more information, review our Guide to Ideas.

Additionally, a status of not currently planned does not mean this feature suggestion goes away. It will remain open to votes and comments, and may be revisited at some point in the future.

Lastly, we sincerely hope you will continue recording and uploading your activities to Strava. Here is a list of the Sport types that we currently support. It’s always an option to set your activity to sport type “workout” and indicate more specifics in the activity name.

Thanks again for your contributions.

Cheers,

@Scout
Your missing the point.

This is not a 'new' idea, but the re-instatement of one that was already in Strava, but was REMOVED by choice!

I also don’t understand the sudden change to what qualifies as a “virtual ride” — the power etc data coming from the Schwinn Z bikes that my gym uses or my road bike on my KICKR controlled by my Edge 1030 Plus is just as valid as that from Zwift and TrainerRoad etc.

Whilst this is a workable resolution, I still would prefer the old manual option as those of us who have several years of rides classified as Virtual, can maintain out ride separations!

As pointed out in another thread, I use Nordtreck with iFit, and the different ride options within (video, streetview, manual) import differently and with no consistency by type.  Since the change I've had some importing as virtual and other not, from the same ride series with the same trainer!  Bring back the manual option, no one is 'cheating' by highlighting their ride 'isn't real'!

If you're not able to add a new sport type, then why not at least add two default bike types (indoor/stationary vs. outdoor). It seems silly that Strava can't distinguish a Peloton ride from an outdoor ride
