Unicycling is vastly different from regular cycling as the speed in general is much lower on a unicycle. Thus the resulting data gathered from an activity on a unicycle is not comparable to a normal ride.
It doesn’t matter that it’s hard to measure unicycling. Some of us ride distances and would like to be able to use Strava to record our rides, create routes, and challenge our friends.
Absolutely. I log hiking, mtb rides road rides, unicycle rides, and snow shoeing. I would like to keep them all separated. I ride to work on my unicycle on a regular basis.
Strava should take us seriously. Look at how many people are putting unicycle in the descriptions.
I have almost 700 unicycle rides recorded on Strava. And a similar number of bike rides. I requested this feature long ago but it looked hopeless then and based on my recent experience with other more universal feature requests (e.g. Dark Mode), I doubt Strava will listen here (Please prove me wrong!).
I really like the concept of the PR. But Strava doesn't work for me because I need bike PRs to be separate from unicycle PRs.
A couple of years ago I gave up and wrote my own. This app keeps my Unicycle Rides separate from my Bike Rides and does a whole lot more that Strava will probably never implement. https://nstrava.herokuapp.com/ Click on "Rides by Cycle" to see breakdowns by Cycle type etc.
Definetly should be a seperate activity from cycling. Just like cycling has road and off-road options unicycling deserves the same appreacation for the difference in these 2 activities on the unicycle.
I fully agree! I unicycle regularly and, as others do, I just put my activity type as cycling. This becomes annoying as I usually have to write something in the description or change the title so people don't think it was just a really slow bike ride. Even mountain unicycling would be a nice category, but that is a long shot. At the very least we should get the unicycling category on there.
Agree. The speed on a unicycle can reach 100 km/h, but other specifics, complexity, passability of routes are very different from both an electric bicycle and an electric scooter.
@VB 100 km/h? We are not talking about EUCs (electric "unicycles") here. We are talking about real unicycles that you pedal and balance on your own. Here is a video
@VB Now granted what Ryan Kremsater achieves might be more extreme than what many of the unicyclists here can do. But this is the sport we are talking about and there certainly are unicyclists on Strava at his level.
For example I follow Ben Soja here and he is also crazy impressive.
Please add unicycling to Strava. There are hundreds of unicyclers out there currently using Strava. There are at least 3 categories the unicycling community use. Distance unicycling on various wheel and cross and sizes. Mountain unicycling (Municycling) where we use the same trails as mountain bikers, hikers and runners. Then there is freestyle/trials unicycle. Much like skateboarding or bicycle freestyle riding. Within those categories it would be nice to have cadence and a watts. This would be easy to figure out since we’re on a fixed wheel of different sizes using weight, speed and elevation grade.
