Feature: For routes, add grouping and sorting functionality to the web an mobile app.

Over time I have built up a library of routes which I use. Scrolling through them is painful. I would like to be able to group/categorise routes and also sort them by various fields.

**Edit**

Expanding on the comments from my fellow users about this idea, fields to filter and sort by:

  • Route name
  • Created date
  • Last modified date
  • Start location
  • Route type [Out and back | Point to point]
  • Terrain [Flat | Rolling | Hilly | Mountains]
  • Distance
  • Ride Type

The grouping into folders is something I also had in mind but from an implementation point of view I get that tags, filtering and sorting is easier to deliver. Folders would be great though.

I would like to add either destination or mid point and be able to filter/sort by these. Basically the café stop so, location of the café and café name. I have multiple routes to the same café:

  • On a point to point route the destination is the end point. It could also have a mid point for a stop/café.
  • On a an out and  back it could be the mid point or, on longer rides multiple points (multiple cafés.)

Looking at a one to many here, but a café stop option would be great.

Moderator's Edit: we are excited to announce that we launched Route Filters for Web on January 10, 2023. Now, you can search by keyword, filter by multiple sport types and more! We appreciate any and all feedback on this feature so feel free to continue to leave comments in this thread. However, if you have additional suggestions we invite you to submit a new idea. For more info on how to do this, please click here

Oh this! It drives me crazy that I can't organize my routes via a folder system. Thats more important than a filter function in my opinion. However a filter function is also really useful and for me filtering by start location/country would be great!

I really hope to see this functionality at the next possible opportunity!

Filtering by route duration would be great for many, I think. I often have a discreet window of opportunity for a ride 🙂

By proximity to current location would also be useful as I like to ride on vacation, but I'm not really close to those routes most of the time.

It would be very helpful to be able to create directories in each route category (ie. so that I could group routes by distance or location or for a specific trip).

Great Idea! I don't know why it has not been implemented yet !

Going throught hundreds of routes to find one is not easy

same here. ive just joined the forum to try and find out about organising the 120 odd routes ive created all over UK and Europe. a folder option to start would help.

How are they organised now ?? i can't see how. it's not when created or alphabetical. I created 4 routes the other day, starred them all. 3 were at the top of the page the 4th was several pages down. (cannot for the life of me see why)

I think there should be a way to organise your saved or planned routes. A folder system would be best.

@redbikernut they should be organized by date of creation. Can you specify if you're looking at them on web, the mobile app, or a 3rd party device?

viewing on the app and on the. Website they are in date order.
With all the routes I have created it takes ages trying to find what I’m looking for

The problem is I have to scroll and switch pages through 274 routes to find one that I should just be able to find a route that I know I names properly.  If I know I've created at least 6 routes for Mt. Wilson, I should be able to search for "Wilson" and have all the 6 Wilson routes come up for me to choose which one my group will be doing this weekend.

RideWithGPS allows me to search by name of the route.  I just wanted to use Strava because not all of the riders in our group are on RidewithGPS, but all already have Strava.  Little by little, they're joining RideWithGPS because I share the route via a link to there instead of Strava because I refuse to waste 20 minutes scrolling and switching pages just to find a route I know that partial name of already,.

Viewing all comments to this topic, I think it´s unnecessary to look which actual sorting the stored routes has (I think it`s happenstance). We need a clear commitment from STRAVA to make possible: a filter, a search fuction an a free defined sorting order. From my point of view it makes no sense that a lot of user reporting their problems with their stored (meanwhile I stroed more than 300) routes und the answer from STRAVE ist --- nothing !!!

I agree. We really need this. I have many different routes. I use some at different locations, i.e. home vs. visiting family. I have some for different distances. I would love to see groupings, filtering, sorting, etc. I'd also love to see easier "renaming" of routes (I could accomplish a lot of this just with different naming conventions).

Would be great to be able to search and filter routes by name, location, distance, climbing etc. Would also be great to be able to organise routes into folders and subfolders.

The route planner is great, integration with segments, ability to route by surface, popularity etc are huge strengths, but the lack of organisation tools sees me return to RidewithGPS or Komoot more often than I'd like.

seems a lot of concensus about making the routing part of Strava more useful - perhaps some of the big increased subscription costs could go to implimenting ideas that users have been asking for, for what seems like years.....happy 2023 everyone, hope we keep enjoying this platform and it keeps enjoying keeping us on it.

PS I spent part of the holiday duplicating and renaming a whole set of Explorer Tiling routes so they appeared at the together and at the top of my list of 150 routes...annoying to have to use a clumsy work around...

Yes, finally!  I see the new search and filter functionality on the web version of Strava.  I don't need to use RideWithGPS anymore!
