In the world we are a lot of orienteers that want to label our activities like an orienteering race or training, different from the simple runs. Please, create a new category for orienteering.
I wouldn't hold your breath. Strava are very happy to take your money, but not at all interested in ideas. Even a basic simple change like adding HR data to the summary screen for running, like all other activities have. Nope.
Re. Discussion as whether orienteering should be a separate sport or a subtype of run/trail run.
You need to think tactically/strategically here. There are 5 run subtypes: none, workout, long, race and commute.
Do you really think Strava are going to expand this to add 'orienteering' as an option to every Strava run in the world? For what will be a relatively small amount of activities compared to all those logged. By numbers O is a tiny sport. This suggestion is too broad and you're setting yourself up to fail with it.
Orienteering should be added as a new sport (as it is a separate sport) on a level with 'trail run'. On your activity totals, you can select for distance logged as 'run' and 'trail' run' separately, but also select 'all run', which combines the totals of the two.
Therefore I suggest a new sport of 'orienteering' be added (at the same level as 'trail run', but that time/distance etc. totals are included in 'all run'.
For Americans....you are a geek....orienteering is the most noble sport of all....run like an athlete and think as a chess player while fighting the elements......whilst all of the gym equipment is on the list....lol.....commercials won't touch this sport....it is too cheap for them. Make it expensive...It will catch on....lol

I'm totally on board with the last part! Kudos to user Ba-Ba for the idea. Ba-Ba might be onto something; I agree with him. Treating orienteering as its own sport makes sense, especially when comparing it to 'trail run.' Trying to add it as an option to every single Strava run worldwide seems a bit much, considering the smaller number of orienteering activities. Creating a new category for 'orienteering,' on the same level as 'trail run' but lumping the stats into the overall 'all run' totals, sounds like a smart move.
