Since the orange line on the map is the first thing most people see, and it just looks flat without digging further into the analysis or opening a 3D map, I thought it would be nice if the line could vary in color depending on whether you were ascending, descending, or on flat ground. I’m envisioning that it may be orange on flat ground, but as you go up hill, it would transition to deeper and deeper red the more steep the hill. On the contrary, if you were descending, it may transition to yellow and then green shades depending on the steepness of the hill. This way other users seeing your run, walk, bike, etc. would immediately get an idea of how much variation there was just by the line colors. Thank you for your consideration.

You can do this already with the Map Type "Gradient", but it's for subscribers only.

Thanks,

I'm fairly new to being a registered user and didn't realize that was there. I didn't see a way at set it as my default map type. Is that possible or do I have to edit the activity each time I want it to show up that way?

You could use the app from our forum member activityfix (https://www.activityfix.com) where you can connect to Strava and set rules about the map type.
