When sharing a running activity to Facebook, the image is a clipped version of the map of the route. But the image clips the top and bottom of the route, as shown below. It would be nice if you could do the image so that it always includes the entire route, much as you do in the map for the activity.

Thanks!

When we attach an image to an activity, Strava automatically creates a square (1:1 aspect ratio) thumbnail image to display on the feed and athlete profile. If the original image was in portrait mode (9:16 or similar aspect ratio) then the subject's head is often cropped out. Strava should imitate other social media sites like Facebook and do smart image cropping for thumbnails to keep faces in the frame. There are free open-source software libraries for face detection available now which make this very easy.

At present, when you share a Strava activity to Facebook or X, all that is shared is a graphic containing a map of the activity and a few very basic statistics. I do not want to pollute my feeds by sharing every activity that I have on Strava, but I would share those in which I achieved a PB over a certain distance. However, when I do try to share these, then fact that I achieved a PB is completely removed from the information. By the time the "share" makes it over to Facebook these record breaking runs look like any other activity so I end up not sharing them at all. The same applies to activities in which I ranked highly on a segment leaderboard or became a local legend, so I end up not sharing these ones either.

Making the "share" feature post a screenshot of what one of my followers would see on their Strava feed would be brilliant but even adding a "5k PB" badge (or equivalent for other distances) to the currently generated graphic would be an improvement. Implementing this feature would be relatively straightforward and encourage more people to share their activities outside of Strava, thereby giving Strava some free advertising in the process.
