FKT (Fastest Known Times) are becoming popolar in mountaineering and trail running.

It basically means the shortest time to walk/run/climb or a mix of those from point A to point B (typically from the base camp to the top of a mountain). The route taken does not matter: just the shortest time to go from A to B.

Strava segments are very poor at measuring FKTs: as they were designed for road biking they take into account the route taken and if the trail runner attempting the FKT does not take exactly the same route of the previously crated segment his FKT attempt will not be recognized.

My proposal is to create a different type of segments, called "FKT Segments", that take into account just start point (point A) and end point (point B) without taking into account the route taken. Any activity that passes thought point A and B will trigger the FKT segment time.

This would allow to record FKTs correctly

Thanks,

Marco

I like the idea of FKT segments in general, but there are some FKTs that are loops or nearly loops (where one could take a significantly shorter part).

It would be great to make long FKT like segments more discoverable in general.

on way to resolve that it is to set one or more fixed points to be obligatorily passed beside start and end points

for example a FKT segment from base camp to the top of a mountain AND BACK has the same start and end points (it is a loop) but it can be forced to pass on the top of the mountain too (disregarding the path taken from base camp to the top and from the top to base camp)
