Please add turn by turn audio directions so we don’t have to always be looking at our phone while on an activity. I’d personally use this for cycling but I imagine it’s useful for many other activities as well.

Pros

  • If you need to save battery you could turn your phone screen off and navigate purely by the audio directions. (For activities where you may be watching the app mid-activity, like cycling)
  • Saves you from the disruption of pulling out your phone for directions mid-activity. Stay in your flow!
  • Not having to look at your phone in a busy area is safer, especially on a bike.
  • Completes Strava as a navigation app, meaning less need for other devices, and people are more likely to subscribe for Strava Premium.

Please add turn by turn directions for Wahoo devices. This is the main reason I use other apps and not strava year round.

@Soren just to be clear, my post was about turn directions on GPS devices. The above poster is asking about audio directions via phone. That seems like related but different features.

Yes, my request is purely for functionality within the Strava app, with no other navigation/recording devices connected.

Worth the cost of premium service and more if this was added.  Everyone shares the same sentiment in our cycling community.  Strava would triple their subs if this was available.

Upvote!! I use RideWithGPS for this feature....and pay ~$60/yr for it..

This is a good idea for the Strava phone app(s)

I often plan routes and download them. Especially when on a touring holiday. Having the app pipe up with directions when approaching a junction would be extremely useful.

Absolutely. This would be great. Although I use my Garmin device for navigating while cycling, the biggest win for me would be when routes can be navigated while running. Preferably even using my Apple Watch, but I can imagine having navigation on the Strava phone app is a prerequisite before that can happen.

Right now I'm using Workoutdoors to navigate my Strava routes as a premium subscribed. Although I'm happy with what Workoutdoors has to offer for the one time payment of just 6 euros, it would be so much easier to do all that in the Strava app without the effort of exporting/importing GPX files all the time. I might add an idea for specifically that part later.

It would be amazing to have turn by turn navigation, but if not then at least having your GPS location fixed (following your location) would be superhelfpul, so you don't have to keep pressing the my-location- icon and/zooming in or out to see where you are heading on the map. Importantly then being able to choose 2 or 3 different distance-heights it follows you from above. Currently you press the location button and it zooms far out

This would be a game changer to have voice navigation in app.

I think for turn by turn on Wahoo, that would need to be built by Wahoo.  I have a Garmin, which has navigation features - while I can upload a Strava Route to the Garmin, it is the Garmin device that has the navigation capability/feature, Strava is just providing the route.  Strava could build this on their own app (iPhone, Android), but I think the feature on Wahoo would be similar to Garmin.  (Strava could perhaps work through their relationship with Wahoo to develop such a feature).

I am new (again) to Strava and am shocked that Strava still does not have the turn-by-turn directions on a phone app feature.  RideWithGPS has had this for years, and I finally switched from that to Strava, because RWGPS has very poor support for running, and I run a little more than I bike.  I just assumed Strava would have this feature.  WRONG!  So apparently I either need to get a Garmin device or something else, or create my routes in RWGPS, or something.  It's all unnecessarily confusing.

I just want to have the Strava app give me turn-by-turn directions ON MY PHONE so I don't keep missing my turns in new areas where I haven't run or biked before.  And I don't want to have to buy a separate device for this basic functionality and then have to get on that device vendor's update/upgrade hamster wheel.  Make life SIMPLER for Strava users please, and find a way to add this essential feature.

In my opinion, turn by turn audio directions is the number 1 functionality that is missing on Strava. I'm new to Strava and was going to get premium just for this functionality, until I found out Strava didn't support it.

When running new routes, looking on a map on your phone is really uncomfortable and can also be dangerous. Using a second app is possible but also uncomfortable.

Let's get this post some more Kudos so this feature gets developped shortly 👍👍👍

I was shocked when I found out this wasn't already a feature. I've managed to get around it using komoot but I hate using multiple apps for something that should be possible in only one - particularly when they both ask for a subscription / payment for full functionality. Adding this to Strava would make me a far more loyal user and, if it was a part of premium, a far more likely subscriber.

I have wahoo hardware (RFLKT+, HRM and Cadence, all connected to my iPhone 13 and airpods pro.  Running the strava app.  I love to be able to design routes on my PC before I leave after moving to a new town, and then starting off on my bike after downloading said route in my phone.  As has been said, it's a significant annoyance to have to stop whenever in doubt, bring up the app and press a button to see where I am relative to the route, then press again to point north on the map, then bring up the compass app to see which way to go, whena a simple voice in my airpods should tell me when and where to turn according to the downloaded route.  Sometimes, I even have to start google maps and point to where I want to go to get back on the route so I can have *it* tell me how to gt there without looking at the phone.

It used to be that on my RFLKT+ display, I could see whether compass directions at least, but that no longer works.  I would *love* to be able to see on my RFLKT+ display the distance to the next turn and which way to turn, if getting voice to be included in Strava is so hard to do.  I can see which song I am listening to, but how useful is that?!
