Another improvement that would add real value inside Strava is visibility into which specific activities generated a heatmap segment.
Current limitation:
When viewing a heatmap, especially personal heatmaps, you can see where activity has occurred but you cannot easily identify which ride created that trace. This becomes especially frustrating when:
• No photos were uploaded during that activity
• It was from a past trip in another country
• Multiple similar routes overlap
• You are trying to remember a specific ride or training block
Suggested feature:
• Drop a pin anywhere on the heatmap
• Display a list of activities that passed through that exact point or segment
• Sort by date, distance, elevation, or activity type
• Click directly into the selected activity
This would transform the heatmap from a visual density layer into an actionable navigation tool.
Use cases:
• Identifying a memorable climb or descent
• Finding a past route from a specific trip
• Rebuilding a ride without relying on photos
• Reviewing performance history on a specific section of road
Heatmaps are powerful visually, but they currently lack drill-down functionality. Allowing users to trace heat back to specific activities would significantly increase utility, especially for long-term users with deep ride history.
