Hello! I hope you are all well ☺️

I searched and couldn't find this question, but maybe a similar one has already been asked and I apologize if that is the case.

Basically, I started alternating walking and running in my workouts. When I record it as walking, the total exercise time appears. When I record it as running, the time drops drastically.

What can I do in this case?

Thank you very much in advance and wishing you the best!

Hi @maria.mr.1997,

it seems that what you're observing is the difference between elapsed and moving time; if you record an activity as a Run, the significantly slower parts are probably considered as non-moving. But if you look at the details of the activity, the elapsed time should capture the whole duration.

Here’s some more details: https://support.strava.com/hc/en-us/articles/115001188684-Moving-Time-Speed-and-Pace-Calculations

Thank you for your help! ☺️

I've already read the details and I think I'm understanding what happens.

Wish you a great day!

Are you using the Strava app on your phone to record the activities?  One thing I would check would be the “auto-pause” feature.  This is actually something that most devices have, so worth checking on whatever you use.  On the phone app, when you go to the recording screen, click on the little gear in the top right for settings and see if the “auto-pause” is toggled on for run.  If it is, consider turning that off.  The auto-pause will stop the timer if it things you are stopped, so moving really slowly may not show up as movement.  If you toggle it off, it will keep recording even when slow or stopped which might help your issue.  I know that I record a lot of walking time with my dogs as “runs” just to simplify things since I often mix in some amount of running here and there with those activities.  I have the auto-pause for running turned off so it records continually for the entire duration of the activity, regardless of the speed I might be going.
