I rode a segment using my Garmin 540. During the ride i kept seeing my segment screen on the device, that it said I did it with 9mins and 2secs. But once uploaded, strava said the same segment was 9mins 13seconds. Why is there an inconsistency?

That can happen if one or both of the segment GPS (from the creator of the segment) and your GPS aren’t precise enough and therefore don’t match exactly. Strava and Garmin can have different opinions at which point of time your effort started and ended then.
