Strava says "Segment creation in this area is disabled because it has been identified as private property, having restricted activity access, and/or other reasons"

Support site says it's a known issue and they're working through it, is anyone else having this issue? Hopefully it'll be fixed soon!

I'm trying to create a segment on a regular road inside a city and I'm getting the following error message:

Segment creation in this area is disabled because it has been identified as private property, having restricted activity access, and/or other reasons

You guys really need to fix this. No, my GPS data is just fine (recorded on a Garmin 840).

Yes, I am experiencing the same problem

Same

They ruined Strava! Hope it's just a bug and not intentional

Yes, same message, on a clearly not private property route with no reason I can think of not to allow a segment. Please fix this!

As per the issue regarding segment creation, segments are now being created, yet they're not showing up on the activity, not even 3+ hours after the activity has been completed.

This may have something to do with the segment creation issue that was noted earlier yesterday.

This morning I created 2 new Segments.  Neither was close to being a duplicate of an existing Segment and I didn't get any error message when I saved them.  However, I just completed an Activity that included the new Segments and neither appeared in the Segment list.  I also see that neither of the new Segments appears in the list of Segments that I have created.  I've previously created more than 5,500 Segments without any problems.  Anyone else getting similar problems ?

Indeed, it`s now impossible to create new segments. The system doesn`t even show an error message.

Yes same issue here. Created a segment yesterday, seemed to process as normal (no error message about private property) yet it does not appear on the ride I created it from and when I go into My Created Segments, it's not listed. The only other segment on that road is in the opposite direction, so it can't be a duplicate either.

Hello!

Thanks for the posts. We are aware of this issue and are working on solving it as quickly as possible. We will post an update when we get more info from our team about this.

So they're saying it's a known issue - looks like the attempt to fix many of the irritating issues with segments as noted at this link isn't going so smoothly: https://communityhub.strava.com/t5/strava-insider-journal/we-re-changing-segments-for-the-better/ba-p/42110

I'm sure they'll fix it soon. It can't help that this surfaced Friday and runs over the weekend.

Hopefully they don't take all our KOM's away!! Lol

Same issue. Hopefully this gets fixed soon.

Hi!

September 2024.. I've created two new segments following a mountain bike ride. The route is "accepted" (i.e., Strava accepting the length) and then when I click create, it goes back to the ride (from which I've created the segment) but doesn't create the segment. I've tried creating two separate segments three times, to no avail.

To confirm they weren't created, I checked under "my segments" under dashboard and did not see my created segments.

The ride I tried using to make segments: https://www.strava.com/activities/12534902987

Thanks.

Segment creation no longer works. Really hoping this gets fixed soon.

I'm having the same issue. Just tried creating 3 new segments from a ride. Says they were all created but none of them show up. Somethings not right.

I am having the same issue - first noticed it on Saturday, 28/9/2024, then again Sunday, 29/9/2024. I saw on a help page when I tried to report it that segment creating is down, however no timeline has been given for resolution of the issue. Perhaps it has something to do with the changes they are making to clean segments up

Je suis dans le même cas, ce lundi 30 sept

TRANSLATION:  I am in the same case, this Monday September 30

Same issue here.  Created a segment, saved it but doesn't appear in the activity.  Tried refresh; logging out; logging in again etc.  Segment public, not private etc.  Come on Strava! Sort it out please!

.. same problem

Hi, I created numerous segments yesterday (29th September 2024) in the normal way. These have not appeared on my ride. It would be good to know that Strava has accepted the new segment when you save it. Otherwise looks like the same issues as everyone else. The support link through the app is not very useful as it does to give much information apart from 'segment creation is currently down'. The Strava status page link does not mention this.

I had another attempt to create a new Segment a short time ago.  As before, it appeared to save it but the Segment is not visible.  However, something else curious happened.  I wanted to make a relatively short Segment of about 0.33 miles, being well aware that the minimum length is about 0.31 miles (500 m).  However, it kept telling me the Segment was too short until I gradually increased it to 0.36 miles (600 m).  Hence I'm wondering if the minimum Segment length has somehow increased during the recent problems.  Hopefully this was not intentional - I don't remember any Strava customers asking for an increase and I well remember a lot of complaining when the minimum was increased from 300 m to 500 m a couple of years ago.  If the minimum length needs adjusting can I politely suggest a compromise of 400 m ?

Any update on when Segment creation will be restored? It's quite frustrating and there seems to be no adequate explanation as to why it's occurred.

Same as many others here, I haven't been able to create any segments since Friday. It's even more frustrating as all proceeds as usual when I have tried to create them with no indication that it's not actually saving anything... A response when you go to create a segments saying it's not working would be less annoying. Hopefully this will be fixed sooner rather than later!

In the last week, any new segments I have created are not showing up.  I know they are trying to declutter, but I live an area that doesn't have a ton of segments.  If this is how it will be in the future, I will move to another service, segments are the main reason I use Strava.
