I never asked for this. We're not 7 years old. Turn it off please Strava!
Do we really think that Johannes Vingegaard is receiving these stupid messages - "Well done Johannes - you really nailed it today!" I don't think so - meaning as far as Strava is concerned - we, not pro riders with a Strava account, are mere underlings, things that Strava can play with... have a laugh at. It's naff PR. The real underlings are the muppets that came up with these 'motivational' messages in the first place! If Strava is (?) genuinely conerned about its community, then they need to find a solution to this situation.
Johannes probably wouldn't have done as well without Strava's constant patronization
Scout the tuning of notifications in Strava does NOT allow you to specially turn this annoying 'feature' off. Does Strava send out the same glib notices to pro athletes? I can see where some beginners might find the notifications cheerful, but I doubt that's Strava's core audience. I'm really surprised something like that could be implemented without the ability to disable it.
@Jane11 - why are you "accepting" one of the generic responses from another Strava admin as a "solution"? This issue is not solved in any way shape or form. Please don't try to stash it away under the "solved" category. Strava needs to make these things optional, not force them down our throats like you do every new "feature". Every time you try to make this a social media platform, you get the same kickback. Please learn! These features are fine IF you give the means to opt in/out of them so we, the paying users, can determine what we want to see.
@Jane11, what patronizing messages does Strava give to Eliud Kipchoge? "Way to go, you're on your way to completing a marathon", "Great 5K effort, keep it up", "You're the Local Legend of the Berlin Marathon". Does Jonas Vinegaard get "Nice you've completed another 1,000km this week, keep going", or "Looking strong on that climb, remember to rest", or "Don't forget to hydrate during your workouts"
Thank you for your reply, and sorry for the rant. However, it's not the first time Strava does this type of stuff. I, together with HUNDREDS of other users, started many threads asking/begging for Strava to let us choose to see our own activities when we get on the app/site and not the activities of everyone we are following. The logic for that is that, right after we upload an activity, we want to see our performance/achievements and not scroll through the activities of all other people to get to ours. Strava ignored this basic and multitudinous request for YEARS and maintained the "Facebook-type" of approach to push (shove) social interaction on its platform. It was only a year or so ago that Strava finally changed that. In the meantime I got off the premium subscription for almost two years (now I'm back).
I hope you listen to your customers more in the future - especially the paying ones!
Thanks.
Please get rid of the motivational messages and ask me to look at my Strave! Very annoying!
Hasn't this push notification always been around? It was just different wording before. Previously it would read something like "You just uploaded an activity - see the stats here." They just changed the wording to be less official and a little more cheery. Is that really so bad?
@optimisticprom Exactly the different wording is the problem: These infantile cheers make me cringe and the other problem is the everchanging text so I always have to think twice before I'm sure this is really the notification for quickly accessing my newest activity.
They appear more frequently without having reached any milestone, and there's no way to turn them off. There should be an option "Receive patronizing notification On / Off"
It's fine, if you are in 3rd grade.
Even the 5 year old Hambini would find this insulting!
STOP THE FEATURE!
Or at least give us an obtion button.
Im a grown man. I do not need an Machine telling me im a good boy for doing a workout!
I think we need to all start creating Strava support tickets. Nobody from Strava seems to be paying attention to this thread
Ya, although I won’t go off the deep end and say someone needs to lose their job over it (like a writer above) I do find the auto kudos annoying, meaningless, and patronizing. I don’t need or want a kudos feature at all, let alone one that doesn’t even come from a real person. Save that crap for the snowflakes that need constant affirmation and validation for even getting out of bed in the morning. Probably making a lot of $$ off it via increased engagement and subscription rate, but I think the worst thing that ever happened to Strava was when it went all social.
…and then, hilariously, I got three “badges” for making the above post. 🙄 Totally out of control.
Well done! Just a few more snide comments and you'll be on your way to your next badge 🤣
These 'so-called' motivational messages should be optional. If some users like them - fine, they can continue to receive them BUT for others, these messages are insulting / condescending, so would like the option NOT to receive them. Sounds like a reasonable compromise. PS. Is the likes of Jonas Vingegaard and other pro riders with a Strava account, also receiving these 'motivational' messages OR is it just us ordinary folk?
I agree with the comment above re: opening up separate tickets. I’ve done this and requested the notification language be changed or optional. if this is not taken care of, I am not renewing my membership.
I created a ticket and referenced this thread and asked them to read. I also asked if Pro athletes are forced to have the same platitudes? If not, that means they DO have a way of disabling it
I already get so many activity alerts in my feed. I want to see the ones from my friends that I can personally recognize. When my feed it half full with useless kudos from Strava bots, I'm far less likely to keep scrolling through to find actual notifications that matter. Its just stupid noise
I totally agree... I find the comments condescending and unmotivating, the total opposite of their intended purpose. If I'm just going for a slow run or a walk around the block with my dog I don't need to be cheered on. In fact I don't really need a dumb app to ever be cheering me on. Please add a way of disabling this.
Hello,
Thanks to everyone who has commented and provided feedback. The testing phase is completed and these notifications are now in production.
While this cannot be completely disabled, you do have the ability to disable the push notification. Push notifications are "pushed" to your mobile device when the Strava app is either closed or running in the background.
This can be turned off by going to:
You Tab
Settings (top right)
Push Notifications
Un-toggling Device Activity Synced
The push notification settings do not affect the in-app notifications you receive in the mobile app or on the Strava website.
Again, we appreciate the feedback and it has been passed along to the Team.
