When devising a new route on Strava's mapping tool from a PC, I cannot draw the return route over an existing section of the route. Manual mode does not seem to solve the problem either. Is there an easy fix, what am I doing wrong, it used to work just fine, and this is the only reason why I pay for Strava. I am already having to post the group rides in Ride with GPS, but I would rather return to Strava is I could get it to actually work like it used to work. Any guidance is appreciated!
Hey @AGW,
Thanks for your post. We're going to send this over to our Support team so they can take a look at your account and see what's going on. If you have a similar question please submit a support ticket and we will investigate further.
UPDATE FROM SUPPORT: Sorry for the troubles planning a Route. If you are unable to route on a road or trail automatically, you have a couple of different ways to help resolve the issue:
1. Try using manual mode
Enable Manual mode to add a waypoint anywhere on the map. There are a few things to be aware of when using this mode:
- Manual mode will no longer ensure your route's path follows roads or trails.
- Popularity and elevation selectors will be disabled.
- Distance and elevation can only be roughly estimated for manual edits.
2. Help Improve Strava's Maps
Strava utilizes OpenStreetMap, an open-source project of geographical data for the entire world, alongside our own heat/popularity and other unique data, to help inform routing decisions. If you are experiencing a routing error, you can help the Strava community by contributing the edit to OpenStreetMap. Please visit our support article for instructions for more information.
*When considering a new trail sport activity we ask that you respect the rules of your local trail networks, and only follow maintained trails. Trails that are not maintained by public park services - sometimes called “social trails” - can negatively impact sensitive wildlife in the area. We ask that you honor Strava’s Community Standards, and stay on the maintained path.
If this is a known maintained trail that is supported by your local public park services, please feel free to contribute on OpenStreetMap to include this known trail in OpenStreetMap. This article has details on how you can make your edits: https://support.strava.com/hc/en-us/articles/216917717-About-Strava-Maps
Please note that changes will not be reflected immediately as map updates are completed periodically.
