Strava would like to find and connect to devices on your local network. Why?

Mt. Kenya

This is a privacy concern (hence Apple prompts to allow / disallow access).

But why is Strava trying to access my local network at all? There's no reason for it to be rooting around my WiFi.

Have Strava maybe accidentally used third party code which is maybe a bit malicious?
