Sometimes I hit Finish instead of Pause during a run, then start a new recording right after to keep going. The result is one workout split into two separate activities. My last half-marathon, for example, ended up logged as 18.9 km + 2.1 km instead of a single 21 km run. Today the only fix is a third-party tool, which means exporting both files, merging them, deleting the originals, and re-uploading, and I lose all kudos and comments in the process.
Suggestion
When a new activity starts shortly after a previous one ends (say within ~2 minutes), for the same sport and roughly the same location, Strava could offer to combine them into a single activity, using the same stitching behavior that already works for pause/resume. Ideally a prompt on the second activity: "This looks like a continuation of your previous activity, combine them?", plus a manual "Merge with previous" option in the activity menu for cases outside the automatic window.
Why it matters
It fixes distorted stats (two activities instead of one), reduces feed spam, and removes the need for third-party merge tools that cost users their kudos and comments. The pause/resume logic already exists internally, so this is mostly exposing it for consecutive recordings.
Sport: running. Happy to help test.
