Strava is more than just a place to track miles or chase personal bests; it’s a vibrant community powered by athletes who uplift and support one another. Today, we’re excited to kick off a new series highlighting some of the incredible individuals behind that spirit and behind the Strava Community Hub: our Community Hub Superusers.

In this first spotlight, we’re proud to introduce @Jana_S , a passionate runner from the Czech Republic who brings energy, empathy, and expertise to the Strava Community Hub. Whether she’s sharing tips, answering questions, or encouraging others, her presence helps make the Hub a welcoming space for athletes everywhere to connect, learn, and grow.

Tell us a little about yourself!

I’m based in Czech Republic (Central Europe). I’m a hobby runner—I only started in my 40s, but it’s become a great way to unwind and discover what my body is actually capable of. The great thing about starting later in life? All your PRs are still ahead of you!

When did you first start using Strava, and what keeps you coming back?

I started running during the COVID lockdowns and got a lot of support from fellow runners at work. They were all using Strava, so I figured I’d give it a shot. It turned out to be more than just a training log—it’s a great way to stay connected with like-minded people, cheer each other on, celebrate new PRs, and get through tough injury recoveries together.

What inspired you to become a Superuser in the Community Hub?

I’ve always had this need to understand how things work, and I like thinking about how they could work better. I also enjoy helping others figure out what’s going wrong. Since I use Strava daily and often talk with other users, the Community Hub was a natural fit. It’s a place to share ideas, learn new ways to use the app, and help others solve issues. It’s a great feeling when someone replies that your answer really made a difference.

Can you share a time when you felt especially connected to the community?

Not one specific post—but lots of great ideas from fellow athletes spark those “Yes, let’s vote for this!” moments (and wish for some instant magic, even though understandably, changes take time). Then there are the bug reports, like the Apple Watch app crashing mid-workout, or long activities not syncing—can you imagine not being able to brag about your new marathon PR? Or small mysteries, like a missing ride from someone’s timeline—diving in Sherlock-style to find a broken timestamp, and boom, solved. That felt great.

If someone’s new to the Hub, what advice would you give them?

If you need help, include as many details as possible—others can’t help if they don’t understand the issue. If someone’s answer helps you, let them know—it’s not just polite, it helps others too. And if you see an unanswered question and might know the answer, don’t be shy! Share what you know. The more we all contribute, the better the Hub becomes.

What’s your go-to activity or route when you need a mental refresh?

I’m lucky to live in a town with lovely river paths and nearby woods. That means I can choose anything between a quick 40-minute shake-out run, and spending hours in the hills on a long run. One of my favourite routes is around the reservoir—it has beautiful views and plenty of segments to chase: https://www.strava.com/routes/384-hrazni_8241185251628707251

What Strava Achievement are you most proud of?

My first marathon back in 2023. I honestly never thought I could do it. But I’m not done yet—and I’m curious where (and how far) this journey takes me!

Quickfire Round!

  1. Coffee or tea? - Coffee! (I did say I was a runner, right 😉 )
  2. Morning workouts or evening wind-downs? - Lunchbreak runs
  3. Favorite post-activity snack? - Dark chocolate-flavoured almond milk
  4. One word your friends would use to describe you? - Hmm... stubborn? :D

Anything else you’d like to share with the Strava community?

Big shoutout to all the moderators and community members who make this Hub such a great place! Some names pop up all the time with super helpful replies; others might only chime in once or twice but still offer brilliant ideas. Keep it going! 👍

It’s really nice to get to know more about the human behind the username, @Jana_S! Thank you for sharing some facts about yourself and your journey on Strava. Knowing that you only started running in your 40s and accomplished a marathon makes me feel inspired to get my running shoes back on myself after some time out of the sport. We really appreciate the energy you bring to the Hub and your willingness to help others. You certainly make a difference!

You should offer her a job!

@JBW-Florida hehe I do have a job - and peeking into the hub forums in free moments is a good distraction from the work stress! 😀 When something becomes a job it's not fun anymore. 😎

@Bryant thanks for the kind words! @-Charles- same to you, and absolutely, do dig those running shoes from the wardrobe (or yet better: treat yourself with a new pair), it's totally worth it! 👍

I really loved this line: “All your PRs are still ahead of you!” Though it was originally in the context of swimming, I feel like it can also apply to other aspects of life 😊

This was such a great read - thank you for taking the time to share with us, @Jana_S!

@Jana_S should be given the title Superduperuser 😁
