Annoying new Apple Watch app behavior

In the last few days, when I start a Strava Watch activity on my Apple Watch Ultra, the activity does not actually start unless I keep the watch app up and going in the watch face for the full 3-2-1 countdown.  This has led to missed miles and time and is irritating new behavior; I usually notice it has happened only when Apple Workout asks me if I want to start something some time in.

Anyone else seeing this/know how to change it back to the way it used to work?

Hi @McCarrey, I’ve just tried on my AW9 (watchOS 26.2) and it seems it's working as usually - even if I let the wrist down right after starting the activity, the activity goes as expected. So either it's Ultra-specific (which would be odd, but let's keep it as a possibility, despite unlikely), or just a glitch. Try the good old turning it off and on, just in case there's some stuck process or something.

This exact issue just happened to me. Unless I let the countdown run down, tracking doesn’t start.

Ok- that it happening to someone else does at least make me feel less crazy. So frustrating!

ok so to make it at least a bit less frustrating - when you tap the screen during the countdown the activity starts instantly, no need to wait. I often use that e.g. when I want to get aligned with the gun time in a race.
