Apple Watch didn't record Swim distance or save time

Same thing happened to me today.

Hi STL - I don't have an answer, I'm actually wondering if you can help me. I don't see swim as an activity choice on my apple watch. I do see it on the app on my phone, though. Did you have to change a preference in Strava...or otherwise know how I might get it to show up?

Thanks for posting about this.  Are you looking in the Strava App on Apple Watch?  Swimming is on of the supported activity types, but you might need to scroll quite a way down to see it.  

Is there any news on this one?

Same here. Only time and calories. No heart rate. No distance. What’s up?

I submitted a support ticket and the reply was basically “tough luck, Strava doesn’t do this.” The Apple Watch workout app DOES track indoor swims, so you can use that, but the Strava app doesn’t track indoor swims.

The same happened to me on my Apple Watch 8. Started a Swim activity on Strava, during the activity it was tracking the time but not the distance. After the activity got pushed on my feed, I see it shows 0 minutes moving time (while in reality I swam 1h 22m) and no distance. Only the heart rate is correct.

my apple watch 8 when i first bought last year tracked open water swim distances and then a few months ago just stopped tracking distance and only time now. Very Very frustrating

From STL's comment to Mt. Kenya, Strava doesn't support "Indoor Swimming". I am using Apple Watch to record Indoor Swimming now. However, it shows "Moving Time" not "Elapsed Time" unless you click on Analysis. I'd like to show Elapsed Time but Starva only offers the "Commute" option in Type of Activity. Please add the "Race" option. Thank you.

Same thing happened to me today on an outdoor swim. My First swim with my Apple Watch 8, so somewhat disappointed. I have the Strava app on the watch and selected swim (only one swim option). Time and heart rate recorded but not distance. 

I also faced the same issue with my apple watch during swimming. Now got a lot of positive recommendations from your comment section. Thanks for posting, I was struggling a bit due to this issue.

Hello, do I understand it correctly that for apple watch strava is useless when using while swimming?

When do you want to upgrade strava, so it can do the same as already built in app by apple?

Mine did the same at the start of this year, have checked all updates, deleted and re downloaded the app and it’s still not working. 
did you manage to fix yours? 

No fix yet, I’m just using the workout app on the Apple Watch. It works for outdoor and pool swims but is very inaccurate, chops about 10% off outdoor distance and typically misses 2 whole laps on a pool swim. I haven’t tried using Strava on a pool swim yet.

I had it just happen this morning during my swim. But I also kept adding additional workouts after I got out of the pool (weight training, and a run). So when i completely finished all my workouts I ended it on the Apple Watch Ultra. So then I got home and checked the Strava upload and the swim only loaded duration and calories. So to fix this I deleted the swim import from the strava settings menu, then reloaded it. That fixed the data pull from the watch and is now showing all the metrics strava can use coming from the pool swim workout.

Same for me with Series 5. Had to use the Apple tracking app. Why is there a swim function in Strava if it doesn’t work?

Did an outdoor swim today and on watch it never shoes distance just time. When I saved it it didn’t even record time. Very disappointed. 

There are a lot of people this happened to, including me. Could someone please post a solution?

I just finished my swim with the Watch SE (2022) and only see Moving Time, Avg HR, and Max HR, but no distance, calories, etc.

This seems to have been an issues for over a year now.  You’d think they would put a fix in.  All the data is there via the Apple Watch.
