Hi,

I hope I've put this in the right place.

I've been using Strava for several years, but earlier this year got the Pixel Watch to make my tracking more accurate, to give heart rate etc.  I use the Strava App on the watch and use it for both running and cycling.

Usually, it works well, but on fairly regular occaisions (maybe once a week), I notice that after the activity has uploaded to Strava, the last half mile or so is cut off.  The run is still tracking when I get home, so its not a case of me accidentally hitting 'end' or anything like that.

Geographically, it always seems to cut off in the same sort of area - so I'm wondering if there's something interfering with the signal - but that doesn't really make sense to me as it doesn't happen every time, and normally the tracker wouldn't cut off the activity, it would just keep going until it found a new signal.

I don't know if this is a Strava issue, or a Google Pixel issue, but it's becoming frustrating and I wondered if anyone else had a similar problem.

Thanks

A few months ago, Strava implemented an automatic privacy zone for all users who did not already have one set up. It hides the start and end of every activity, no matter where it takes place. That sounds like what you’re experiencing, although I’m not positive since you say it only happens some of the time.

Either way, head over to Privacy Controls, under Additional ControlsMap Visibility, and see if “Hide the start and end points of activities no matter where they happen” is enabled.

Note, if you disable it, that it is strongly recommended to add a privacy zone around your home/work by going into “Hide the start and end points of activities that happen at a specific address.” Otherwise, your public activities would reveal both where you live and when you’re not home.

Hi

This is not the issue..I'm aware of the privacy zone which is still switched on and hides the strat and end of the activity, however the tracking ends early regardless of this. The privacy zone for the end of the activity reflects this, ie it also starts at am earlier position than it should.

It is definitely something interfering with the tracking however my watch continues to track and the data uploaded/interpreted by Strava is not accurate.

Hello, and thanks for sharing this. Sorry to hear you're occasionally experiencing issues with your activities being cut off near the end when recording with your Pixel Watch. We've escalated this post to our Support team so we can look into it further.

Hi, has this issue been looked into at all? I've been using Strava for a couple weeks now with a Google pixel watch and I've found the issue to persist for about half of my activities.

I don't know if getting in range if my homes WiFi signal triggers something on the watch but the Strava app continues to track until I tap pause and finish, then my phone shows the checkered flag about a quarter mile before where I was when I tapped finish.

I understand this sounds like the privacy zone but it is definitely not that. Happy to provide more information if needed.

Thanks

Hi Jared

No, not really. Strava asked me to send them the files of the activities that were cut short. After a couple of weeks they got back to me and said it appeared to be a GPS issue, that the watch was losing signal and not picking it back up before the end of the run - kind.of makes sense.

But your issue sounds exactly the same as mine which makes me think that there's either some huge coincidence, or it's something different.

Interestingly, my pixel watch developed a fault recently and (after a drawn out process of terrible customer service), the Pixel team replaced it under warranty. So I was tracking my runs on Strava on my phone. I didn't have any GPS issues at all for the week or so I was doing this. Back on the watch again this week and it's already happened once.

I had hoped that the issue was resolved after restarting my pixel watch, I completed several runs that were mostly accurate. Interestingly, they were still a second or two short than what my watch recorded.

However tonight I went for a run and the synced activity on my phone cuts off the last two minutes of my activity. I'm sharing a couple screenshots from both my watch and phone of the same activity. My watch recorded 6.1 miles with a time of 49:40 and my phone shows 5.84 miles with a time of 47:40.

Same issue here with SIGMA ROX 11.0. Last 1.5 kilometers of my bike rides are cut of. Very annoying!

Having the same issue, since the last 2 weeks, my rides are suddenly cut off 3-5km's before the end in strava. The rides are complete in Sigma Datacenter. My visibility settings in Strava didn't changed and are only setup for 200meters around my house.

I'm having the same issue with my Sigma Rox 11. Sigma Data Center shows the whole ride, but Strava is short by 8 hundredths of a mile to 87 hundredths of a mile. It first happened on November 9th and has happened 3 times since. I use a speed sensor with magnet to record my distance, so even if there is an issue with GPS losing signal (which never happened before this) the distance ought to be the same.

Privacy zones don't have any impact on stats. They only affect what others can see on the map.

@StravaSupport , I am having the same issue.

I created a ticket at strava last sunday and got a reply this morning this is an issue with Sigma

Thank you for reaching out to Strava. We have confirmed with Sigma's engineers that the issue is on their end and they have requested that athletes currently experiencing problems reach out to their support team for further assistance with resolving the issue.

Hi Alen,

Thank you for reaching out to Strava. We are aware of an issue where Sigma activities are syncing with a shortened distance following updates we made from our end. We have confirmed with Sigma's engineers that the issue is related to auto pauses recorded on their end and they are investigating further and are working on a fix at this time. Their team has requested that athletes currently experiencing problems reach out to their support team for further assistance with resolving the issue.

Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns.

Privacy zones don't have any impact on this problem

I have the same problem with my Rox 11.0. I contacted Sigma service center and they give me some workarounds but useless... I think the problem is with Strava app because Sigma didn't made any update on Rox 11.0 devices on last 2 months and until there, all works well. Besides this, in Sigma apps the activities are full and perfectly uploaded!

Problem is in Strava they told me that they made some upgrades but now someone at Sigma must do their job to solve this and they are ao slow about that... Disapointed

Yes, there is many time the problem is occurring. Sigma reply me fast but as I say, no solution or soon perspectives… I ask they if the Rox 11.1 Evo is presenting the same problem, but still no reply. By any way, I don’t think fair we have to buy a new device just by this!

I had the exact same reply from strava. Contacted sigma, but not answer on my mail yet. I have exported my route to a GPX file and checked with https://gpx.studio/  for example and the GPX is correct and is not missing any data or is cut off. IMHO the problem is strava itself. Last weekend  almost 9km's got cut off of my ride.

But as with many software developers the problem is never on there end.... Standard reply.

It’s a shame! How could we pay to use the app if they don’t care about us?

I was thinking to buy 11.1 because of this problem and also my batery is weak but one of my friends on Strava told me there is same problem with 11.1 so Sigma is no option for now... They are very slow about this problem and they dont care much as I see

Oh! Thanks by the information about 11.1. It’s good o to know this!

Sigma 12 is ok maybe they want us to buy and pay them 450 euros

It’s true, but for me this is far away. I’m from Brazil and it will cost at least 800 euros here

I have the same problem with my Rox 11.0, one of my friends has the same with a Rox 12. This is the reply I got from Sigma:

STRAVA has made some changes to the calculation of the distances. As a result, manual break times are now deducted from your distance traveled at the end of your recording. We have not made a change that is causing the problem, but STRAVA has changed something in the calculation of the distances.

This issue is not present in our applications and in Training Peaks, Komoot etc., but only in STRAVA.

We are looking into how we can now adapt our devices to STRAVA. I cannot tell you at the moment whether this change is possible.

You can use the following workaround:

> Import the .fit file directly via the Strava website

> Only use the automatic pause mode and do not take any manual pauses.

We wish you a nice day.

I really hope this can be fixed, this kind of feels like Strava is forcing me to buy a Garmin or some other bike computer.
