I experienced the same issue. Tried to disconnect Strava from Garmin and reconnected them again, but still the horsmanship workout is not synched to Strava. Other workouts still synch.
Hello @HPHaven and @NatasjaJones
Sorry to hear your activities are no longer syncing.
If you can each please submit a support ticket we'll be happy to look into your accounts and investigate what's going on.
Thanks Jane. I have submitted a ticket however Strava support says it’s been resolved however as of this morning (May 7) it still does not sync horsemanship activities from garmin to workouts in Strava.
Hi Jane,
Hi Jane,
I noticed the same. Activities recorded on my Garmin with the Garmin "horseback riding" (sport = "horseback_riding" in .fit file) activity are no longer synchronized with Strava. Other activities are synced, including an activity type I would create myself with name "Aaa" or "Horseriding" which have sport = "Generic" in the fit file. I'll create a distinct ticket as well.
Hello to All who have posted about this.
We are aware that certain types of activities have stopped syncing from Garmin to Strava and we have reached out to Garmin about this. I will post an update here when I have one. Thanks for your patience.
This happened to me also. I’m hoping someone has a fix here
I rode twice today and it didn’t sync anything but my walks
This is stil aan issue. Can we recieve na update?
Same issue for me with "horseback riding" activity recorded with Garmin and not syncing anymore with Strava... Hope it will be fixed soon... thanks!
Rick
Hi all , Hi Jane,
I got this reply from Strava Help Center to my ticket in this topic;

Hi Joao,
Thanks for writing in and sorry for the activity syncing troubles. Garmin recently updated which activity types are synced to Strava.
The Garmin Connect developer API program has been aligned to its original health and wellness intent to focus on health, wellness and primary sports (run, walk, bike, etc.) The change to non-primary sports activities such as flying, motorsports, horseback riding, RC drone, etc. means that you will need to export those activities from your device and manually upload them to Strava.
The best option at this time is to
export the original from Garmin Connect and upload it to Strava from our
upload page. Let me know if you have any questions.
Best,
Jimi
Strava Support Team"
As per my reply to the Strava Support Team, the best option for me it to create an activity which I name "Horse riding", it will have sport = "Generic" in the fit file and synchronizes perfectly with Strava (I tested this already) having all the infos of the activity.
Thanks for the info!
If you can... could you please tell me a bit more about how to bypass this issue? Where do you create the activity "Horse Riding" to allow syncing? Is it something you do just once, in Strava?
Hi All,
We have heard back from Garmin and as @marsupi96 posted above, this was due to a change in the Garmin API (application programming interface).

Apologies for any confusion over this. Let us know if you have additional questions.
One of my regular activity types has stopped syncing from my Garmin Fenix 7s - Horseriding is an extra app I had to download from Connect to my watch to record that activity which has previously worked fine to record then auto sync to Strava but lately it has stopped syncing. All my other standard activities sync to Strava as usual such as Run, Hike. Any clues?

They removed the sync you have to manually upload it now. It’s such a bummer. I used it weekly to track my rides and distance. I am hoping if enough people make a report they will return it 🤞
Garmin doesn’t recognize horsemanship as a sport 👎
Really really unhappy about this. Horseback riding is one of my most regular sports. When I ride in the school, my heart rate increases similarly to à run. Its almost like they're not recognising tous as sport. I understand removing motorbikes, but clearly they have not understood the physical demande of this activity. Not happy at all. 🙎
Yes I have also found this it’s very annoying . Having to manually add it is very tiresome . Is there no horse riding app that downloads with Strava?
1,5 year later and still a problem with the syncing with Strava 😞
The reason provided by the Strava support team as to why horseriding does not count as a primary sport makes no sense. The average heartrate on horseriding equals that of jogging.
The solution to download from Garmin and upload manually to Strava is not practical at all.
Horseriding cant be placed in the same category as flying where fitness is not improved.
Is there any way we can motivate for horse back rides to be counted again? It’s a bit ridiculous that they are viewed in the same category as motor sports. My 13km ride on Sunday I had an average heart rate in the 140s and a max of 182!! The same as my run the day before.
I agree! My horseriding sessions are harder than my bike rides! Clearly the people who made this decision have no idea how physical riding is.
I also think it's a shame from a security point of view. I would like to be able to use the tracking feature to alert my husband in case of a problem.
I totally agree.
I just got off my horse.
sweating on my back and then it wasn't because of the heat 🙂
