Today, I started a recording session and confirmed that Strava was showing my starting heart BPM on my phone.  I put my phone in my pocket.

3.5 miles later, at my halfway point, I took my phone out of my pocket and instructed Google to take a screenshot, which captured my then current BPM.  A few seconds later, I saw the BPM display go to ZERO.

This is not the first time I have experienced Strava losing the connection to my chest band, so I expected to see the BPM data from only the first half of the activity.

But when I completed the full activity and got home and looked at the data, I saw that I have completely LOST ALL the recorded BPM data.

I don’t even see half of it as I expected.

How can Strava lose 50% of an activities heart data?

Is this a new Strava feature?

It seems also from your other posts that you encounter many bugs and shortcomings of the Strava app. Did you consider using another phone app for recording, just for a test or as permanent replacement? There are many free to use alternatives that can upload the activity to Strava afterwards.

I hate change.  I’d rather have Strava hire people who can fix problems rather than making excuses to cover up problems.

Remember 5, 6 or so years back when Strava made the foolish decision to drop support for  bluetooth heart monitors because some monitors were causing Strava crashes and their developers were unable to figure out why?  They lost a huge amount of subscribers until they walked back that decision 2-3 years later.

If they don’t fix their code problems, say in the GPS arena, by hiring experienced, competent developers or turning to AI for assistance, then that same customer loss may reoccur.

But thanks for sharing.

Since I first used the Strava app in 2014 the recording functions didn’t really change, they even got worse because they didn’t reintroduce all the mentioned dropped bluetooth connections like speed or cadence sensors, only heart rate sensors were readded. And for me it was only one year of using the Strava app for recording, then I was fed up with all the bugs and crashes and switched to other apps  and since 2017 I don’t even use apps anymore for recording because a phone is inferior for recording outdoor sessions in comparison to dedicated devices.

Of course it would be better if Strava makes the app better but the past shows that they only makes things worse. So I encourage you to make the jump to another app like the “Wahoo” app, it’s only for recording, everything else you can still lookup and analyze in the Strava app.
