I’m using the iOS Strava app on an iPhone 15.
Recently -- the past few months -- while recording an activity, the map fails to load beyond whatever initial blocks were loaded when the recording initially started. As a result, beyond the immediate vicinity of the starting point, the map view shows mostly a sea of gray, on which the GPS track is overlaid. Segments also load OK and float on the gray background. See this screenshot for an example:

Maps load fine in the “Maps” tab once the activity is stopped. I can also verify it’s not a cell data issue. The issue is consistent; it’s occurred on every single one of my last dozen or so recordings. It is a usability issue that requires me to switch to a different mapping app while I’m in the middle of an activity. This is especially problematic with cycling, where I use the heat map overlay while riding to make in-ride routing choices.
