I just noticed that my max heart rate was automatically changed in the app (not by me), and it caused some weird data issues:

  • All my past activities have been updated with new heart rate zones, which are now incorrect based on this new HR max.

  • However, the effort data (Relative Effort, etc.) remained unchanged for those older activities, so they don’t match the new HR zones anymore.

  • For my latest activity (after the HR max change), both the HR zones and the effort score are wrong, since they were calculated using the incorrect HR max.

I’ve already updated my max heart rate to the correct value manually, and even tried recalculating performance data, but nothing changed — the past activities still show the wrong HR zones, and the effort score on my latest activity is still off.

Can you help me revert this change or reprocess my activities using my correct HR max value? I'd really like my data to reflect the original, accurate information.

Thanks a lot in advance for your help.

You can recalcuate the relative effort of your latest activity by temporarily changing the activity type and then change it back. After that you have to wait a bit and then you can see the correct releative effort after closing and reopening the activity.

Thank you for the tip. The relative effort value is now correct, but the heart rate zones remains wrong...

Same issue. My max heart rate had been set at 190 and recently I noticed it was changed not by me to 177. I’ve reset it, but all of my past activities show heart rate zones calculated on the 177 bpm.

That would be a lot of resets for every single past activity. Hopefully they fix this. Every one of my past activities now shows a lower max HR and adjusted zones so it’s all jacked up.

You misunderstood the goal of that. It’s for correcting the relative effort for activities that were uploaded after the unwanted change of the max heart rate.

.

How is it possible for MAX heart rate on old activities to be even modified in the first place.

I am surprised only two people have this issue.

Has anyone actually managed to open a support ticket with Strava ? No matter which link I click, I just keep looping back to the same page over and over again.

Having the same issue here. I noticed last night that it changed automatically…I was able to create a support ticket this morning.

Happened to me too.  I corrected my max heart rate so current activities are using the correct zones, but the old ones are all still using the wrong zones going back years.  I think this just happened 3-4 days ago. It is weird.   Does anyone know if strava will automatically fix their max heart rate screw up?

I just noticed that my max heart rate and heart rate zones were changed too. The change was applied to all of my old activities. Are they recalculating max HR automatically after analyzing activities? Applying the change to old activities does not make sense.

What is the status of your ticket?

I am having the same problem. This is quite unhelpful…

Oh thank goodness, not just me then! I’m really miffed about this. No notification at all, just a change not authorised by me. I want it all changing back. It’s screwing up all of my training data.

I have the same problem. It happened for me on Monday or Tuesday of this week. I only just noticed today.

Did you get any news ?

Hello and sorry to hear some of you are still having HR issues. We are aware of this bug. At this time I am unable to provide an expected resolution time frame. However, we will certainly do our best to address this issue as quickly as we can.

Thank you!

I've just noticed this too.

I'd not been running much due to a sore hip.

Max heart rate has changed to 169 where as it was 190

All zones are wrong - I was also surprised at the relative effort of over a 100 for a 5k so gentle run - it would normally be about 35 to 40

Do we need to raise separate tickets - this is my first time on this forum

You don’t necessarily need a ticket, you can change your setting back the way it was manually. And for the one activity with the wrong relative effort you can correct that by temporarily changing the sports type. It will need a while to update the number and as others has experienced the statistic about heart zones will still be wrong. That would be the only thing for what you have to address the support if that is important to you.

Thanks. I have adjusted the activities affected as suggested. Relative effort is now more modest.

My comment about the ticket was that Strava have said it is a bug (above) and so do we need to raise our own ticket or will they address the bug fix via this chat?

As Kimberly22 wrote they are aware of the bug and will address it someday. It’s difficult to say if making support requests will accelerate this process so they don’t have to bother with new tickets about this anymore.

Why is this only affecting a handful of people?

If this was really a strava bug, should the impact not be more?

Same issue here as well… I really hope they can fix this.
