In my haste to get a run tracked on the Apple app, I accidentally started a weightlifting session instead. When I finished the run I saved the activity without realising it wasn’t classed as a run. I’ve got as far as Exporting the Original but this has only tracked the duration and no other data points. Is there any way to retrieve any of the run data or have I lost the run data forever? (I wouldn’t usually mind, but this was the last section of a long race after my watch died and I’d hate to lose the info).

The same has happened to me recently - instead of a run, I started a stretching workout… and have noticed that only after ~15 minutes. ♀️
I stopped the activity and started a new one with correct sport type, but well, of course I was grumpy that my mileage would be messed up. So here's what I did:
- in the Strava app, open the activity in edit mode and edit the Sport type (set to Run and save)
- then open the activity on the Strava website; from the menu on the left, tap the three dots (o o o); and choose format to export (here's some details about the formats)
- open the exported file in some tool allowing editing (I’ve used the RunGap iOS app, as I’m using it to sync my runs to Runalyze and Garmin Connect, but I suppose there's many options), and add the distance (assuming it's known)
- delete the original incorrect activity from Strava
- import the edited activity to Strava (either via RunGap or through the Strava website file import page)
- voila, there's a run activity with distance/pace data and heart rate
It's not an ideal solution of course, there's no gps data, but that's the best thing I was able to figure out back then. Ever since, I've been super careful to start the correct activity type
Thank you, that’s really useful!
