Hi all.  Not long ago I could start a MTB ride on my Garmin Fenix 6 and 7 and it would start a livetrack (auto start), then I could go into strava>record>beacon, and grab the url of the ride to share.  I did not need to start a recording in the strava app because, of course, it was getting it from Garmin.  This made perfect sense.

Now, no matter what I do, I cannot get a share URL for a ride to work unless I start a ride as well in the strava mobile app.  Even if I have a couple contacts with phone numbers, it does not send.  If I share the strava beacon link, the receiver gets the attached screen saying "status activity not started".  I even tried setting my phone number as one of the safety contacts thinking I would get a text of the beacon url to then put into our group rides via "whatsapp" which is the use case.  To make it work I have to record in the app, then it will show a live ride.

Hello @Cwoodffr

Thanks for your post.

To troubleshoot this issue, on Garmin Connect App > Go to More > Safety & Tracking LiveTrack > Options (top right three dots) > Strava Beacon Data & Privacy. Consent to sending your location data to Strava using LiveTrack by selecting "I Consent". If this is already activated; go ahead and 'Revoke Consent' and then go back and Consent again.

If this continues to not work:

  • When was the last time, if ever, that Garmin/Beacon worked? Has anything changed since then (new phone, new contact number, new Garmin, etc)?

  • Can you verify the current version of Strava you are using?

  • Do you have any Garmin firmware updates on your device?

  • Do you have any updates on your Garmin App on your phone?

Can you try adding your own phone number to Strava Beacon and email to Garmin Livetrack and confirm if you receive the beacon/Livetrack notifications?

Let me know if this helps.
