When I use my camera during recording my activity (cycling, walking), the app stops recording. Giving the message Strava stopped, continue or leave app.

When I choose continue, the recording starts again. When I miss this message a part of the route is not recorded.

I use a Samsung A23 phone.

The app is updated to the latest version.

Does someone know a solution to this problem?

Hi @Bas G,

Someone reported the same problem some time ago, Strava's recommendation was to disable the auto-pause:

Thank you, I will try to find the auto-pause 🙂

The auto-pause is already off..

What is the next suggestion?

I don’t know the layout of the Android app, but is it possible that you accidentally tap the pause button when you switch to the camera? There are complaints about the size of that button in this forum.

No this is not the case, Strava runs in the background. I use google maps for my navigation during walking or biking.

I have the same problem and use a Samsung M23 too.  This started around a year ago.   Everytime I take a photo during a walk, an error message is displayed even when I pause strava beforehand so I always have to clear the error message before it will continue recording.  I've reinstalled strava, made no difference.   Please help, it's driving me crazy!

Disable the ‘appending location’ to a picture/movie in camera settings. Also, i use app called GPS connected to force gps all the time in the phone. Hope it helps.

Thanks.  Location tag is already switched off.  I'll try the GPS connected app though and let you know!

Location tag was also already switched off. Let's see if adding another app helps.

But I have the feeling that we are just in the trial and error mode, instead of looking at the root causes.

It is trial and error, but root casues in such environment (multiuser global phone app)  take time to solve. I had the same problem with my older phone, GPX-Connected fixed it. But now I do not use phone to record activities so, no worries for me :) but wanted to be helpful :)

Hi Michal11,

First thanks for the advice, I did the comment on trial and error in general. Since we are all only users, no developers, it's difficult or almost impossible to find the root causes, so the only thing left is trial and error.

But on the other hand, I installed the app and tested it this morning in our walk with the dog.

There was no error now, so this looks promising.

Now some testing with the battery use.

I will keep you posted.

Cheers ;-), Bas

Thanks everyone for helpful advice.   I set Location permission 'only when using the app' on Strava and the problem seems resolved.  Went for a couple of walks and used the camera- no error message!

Thanks again.  Hope this helps anyone else with this issue.

Great to hear both success stories @Sul and @Bas G ! Cheers!
