I have a galaxy fit 3 I sync to strava through samsung health. But below the activity, the watch model does not appear. It only shows 'samsung health'. Is this normal? Just wondering

Hey @Jing En,

Thank you for asking!
The device name is showing as expected because the upload source is from Samsung Health.

Just to clarify - does Samsung Health not include the device information in the imported data? Because Strava actually does this correctly in a similar scenario - Apple Watch activities imported via Apple Health.

The Apple Watch is correctly shown in the Strava activity details - BUT, it usually takes a while after a newly released AW model is displayed: which seems to indicate that on Strava’s end, there's some kind of “recognized devices list”, and each new AW model always needs to be added to that list in order to appear on the activity details.

So unless the device information is completely missing in the import, it might mean that this specific Galaxy watch needs to be added to the list.

By any chance I can change the name from 'samsung health' to my watch model?

What do you mean by device information in imported data?

These were questions rather for @Bryant / Strava, I’m just a user.

What I’m trying to say is that the fact that the activity is imported via Samsung Health should *not* be the reason why the watch model isn't displayed. Rather, I’m asking whether 1) Samsung Health does not include the watch model information in the data shared to Strava, and 2) if it does, I’m suggesting that the watch model needs to be recognised by Strava (i.e. a change/update is needed to be done by Strava, not the user)

I expect that’s a limitation from Samsung, in the Stava API a devleoper can specify the device_name when creating an activity. Works fine for Garmin, Coros, AmazFit and Apple initiated activities.

You can’t edit it unless you want to save each activity out, edit the file it creates using the correct syntax and import manually (after deleting any matching activity). That’s a lot of effort.

@Jana_S Your initial thought is correct! When uploading from Samsung Health, the watch model isn’t passed into Strava. Thus is the reason the model doesn’t appear within the activity page.
