When I joined Strava, it was very motivating to get achievements as I improved.  Due to an injury and age, I'll probably never run as fast as I did a few years ago, so I never get see those achievements as I slowly get better.  While getting an achievement for beating a lifetime record is still great, it would also be great if there were also achievements based on activity over a user specified period.  For me that would be since I returned to running in November after my injury.  For someone else, it might be when they shift their focus from short runs to long runs or for runners that take the winter off an annual thing.

Ideally, you'd be able to pick a date in past to compare to rather than a hard reset - a hard reset will make every run achievement for a while which makes them meaningless.

Hi!

I’ve been using Strava since 2015 when I started running, cycling and swimming. At the beginning I found the app cool and motivating. Every new race I got many PRs and I was always being stronger, quicker and motivated.

But since then I grew up, got older, also got two kids and nowadays I NEVER could get a new PR or improve my previous marks.

So thinking about that the other I thought that you could implement something like a PRP or a time period for PRs and to compare against yourself. I will probably never run as faster as I run two or three years ago.

For example if I run for two years and later I gout injured, for the recovery period, I could be amazing if I could “reset” in any way these PRs so I could get motivated again while seeing my progress. Maybe the name should be different or maybe you could implement your PR of all-time and also PR of the period, so it could be “customizable”, or at least if this is very difficult programmatically speaking, maybe PR of the year, month, quarter… but a way to get PRs, medals and prizes on the app again to recover some motivation and get help to keep the pace again!

This will be cool. I know I can delete all previous workouts or even open a new account but, I’d love to save all my previous trainings and numbers, so think about it, personal record of the period and customizable or fixed periods but for the last months or last year.

thanks!!!

As a 61yo runner I’m highly motivated by the Age Gradings used by parkrun for every run/ walk. Runner’s World have also done articles on the benefits of Age Grading.

This could be huge enhancement to the Strava offer!

For me personally, I achieved a parkrun age grading of 55% for my first parkrun in Nov 2018. I peaked at 77% a year later but then we had the “covid-pause” and I suffered injury. I’ll never get a sub-20 5k but age grading is motivating me as I get closer to my 77% goal which I can achieve with a 21min 5k. Indeed, the parkrun system motivates me to keep pushing my age grade average which, after 159, is now 70%! My continuing goal and motivation as I get older is to build or at least maintain this for as long as I can.

it would be great if Strava could offer this Age Grading enhancement. Thank you

This is something I'm also looking for. Please help us have an option to reset PRs to chase from a date of our choosing, Strava.

Thank you for your support!

My idea is that there are alternate PR's that factor in average decline in a body (heart/legs/lungs) and allow people that have been Strava recording rides for years and decades, to understand that adjusted for age, they are still setting PRs.

it's hard to explain...but mostly this would benefit people with motivation. I think it'd be great for others to see...but even if it's just only on your own personal activities would be great.

Alternatively a way that you can ignore PR's you set as a 45yo if you are close to 60yo. Something that will start becoming an issue in years to come as people are logging activities from their teenage years and continue throughout their life.

I think all time PR's need to remain...but a way that there is a bracketed PR time based on age bracket or a formulated % based on average decline as you peak and decline...which someone must have worked out.

Addition:
This could also be great for people coming back from serious injuries that may never get back to the same level. So they can log a point in time, and though previous PR remains, it shows cups on activities based on times from that logged point only.

Hello
I would like to propose to Strava, a new option for best lap times, PR.
aside from the lifetime PR, that the annual PR or a specific season could be viewed at the user's option.

if the absolute PRs are in yellow, these could be in another color, green for example

what do you think?

Making achievements, all time, yearly and last 90 days....like training peaks. Then.your not constantly racing against achievements from years ago that you may never ever meet again depending on your circumstance

I agree so much. Post injury or, in my current situation, post pregnancy. I currently think my solution is creating a new account but that seems ridiculous!

I would love to see Strava give proper recognition to athletes who are performing fantastically relative to their age, even if they're not performing fantastically relative to their PR of 10 years ago. Age graded percentages would be a simple and effective way to do this, and I've already made a request for them but I'm not sure how high a priority features for older athletes are for Strava. I wonder what proportion of Strava's active users are over 50, for example?

Does Strava pay any attention to these posts? Are we wasting our time?

There appear to be the same age, injury performance related issues dating back a number of years but I’m not aware of any feedback loop to indicate if anything is being done?!

As a runner, I suggested introducing age grading along the lines used by parkrun but I have no sense of whether there’s any appetite within Strava to make such changes?
