Would it be possible to have "elevation gain" on segments?

At the moment we only have "elev diff" (elevation difference between the lowest and highest point on the segment) which is useless.

Elevation gain can't be lower than elevation difference in segment? It must be gps error?Strava.jpg

Interesting, this idea seems to be delivered but is still on "Gathering Kudos".

@Norden "Elevation difference" hasn't a sign, it can be partly or completely downhill. "Elevation gain" on the other side uses only the uphill parts of the segment. Example:

Hello @greg_m and everyone else who took the time to add your votes and comments. We are happy to announce that this feature was indeed implemented a while ago.

@Jan_Mantau But this segment is uphill, not downhill, elevation gain can't be lover than elevation difference

@Norden thanks for flagging this, you may come across some segments that show less elevation gain than elevation difference on climb segments and this is primarily seen on segments that were created from activities with bad elevation streams.

I have corrected the elevation on the segment you shared. If you encounter other scenarios like this, please let us know by submitting a support ticket and we can rectify the data.

@Soren The segment below has 0 Elevation Gain, but 58 m Elevation Difference. Looks like an error. Could you take a look?

P.S. I've created a support ticket.

@khr thanks for submitting a support ticket. I saw that my colleague, Bruce, was able to repair the segment data and this should be resolved now! Screen Shot 2023-08-01 at 3.46.36 PM.png

@Soren Thank you for a quick fix! I am wondering if it mean that all activities that contain this segment have 60m less elevation than it should be? Or the issue was only with that particular segment, but the elevation of the entire activity was correct?

@khr my pleasure. An activity will not be affected by the elevation data of a particular segment because the elevation is calculated by the device you recorded with or from our basemap data.

Does this mean that Greg-M's post on 09-14-2022 11:54 AM has now been fixed?
