As an avid downhill mountain biker/snowboarder, it would be cool if Strava worked the way Slopes (getslopes.com) does, where chairlift rides don’t count towards a total activity distance.

Good idea !! I like it 🙂

years later, lift rides are still being interpreted as skiing, even though SLOPES sends the data to strava correctly.
afterwards i get best lists of lift rides!!!
which is just absurd and unnecessary.
is it such a big deal to import the data supplied by slopes (ski rides, lift rides) correctly?

Yes this is a no brainer to exclude lift miles and vert!  Please do it Strava!

The people at Strava obviously know it’s an issue.  Rather than removing the downhill ski and snowboard activities, they continue to mislead new members with the fiction that users can track their downhill activities accurately using Strava.  Why hasn’t Strava removed these activities yet?

I had no issue in December. I have garmin and my snowboard and ski was correctly recoded excluding uphill lift.. but today it tells me I have been climbing 3600mteres.. that will mess up my elevation goal. see below.. 3600mt elevation gain on a lift?? what a mess

skimo as well.. where elevation really cont I cannot accept to pay strava for such stupid error.. and makes all my stats pretty useless. either you fix it or I will just cancel my premium subscription. No worth to pay such a price and then see all my stats messed up... My garmin detect all the runs and the uphill lift section.. why i should pay for such mess.

 @Jane

this is not a new request. It was just working fine for me in December. it looks like you introduced a bug...

see here.

please fix it asap.. I do quite some Downhill skiing and snowboarding.. it that counts as elevation gain.. premium strava for me is pretty useless. I do care a lot about elevation gain

Any chance of fixing this including a proper update to accumulated statistics?

https://www.strava.com/activities/10492621545 shows me climbing over 3000 meters which is simply nonsense and makes a mockery of my bike activities.

the data and statistics are simply completely wrong...
it's a shame that a platform like strave doesn't take the time to finally tackle this old problem.
if slopes can do it and various other providers can do it, strava can do it too!!

slopes (correct) to strava...slopes (correct) to strava...

@pgurzi

Thanks for mentioning this seemed to be working for you and now isn't (for your Garmin recorded activities).

Strava does not automatically remove lift data from Ski and Snowboarding activities if the activity in question does not have pause events associated with those lift rides. If your device is not setup or enabled to automatically record auto pauses during your ski/snowboard activity during lift rides then that data will be included in your activity when it is synced to Strava.

Normally, most Garmin watches will have a setting that will automatically pause lift rides if you have it enabled, but we have heard that in the last few weeks, some athletes have found that "Ski Mode Auto Pause" was disabled.

Please confirm that your watch has "Ski Mode Auto Pause" enabled using the instructions here:

If you are still having issues with lift rides being included on your synced Garmin skiing or snowboarding activities please reach out to Garmin support for further assistance with investigating why your activities are not recording Autopauses during lift rides. Here is a link to Garmin's support site where you can contact them: https://support.garmin.com/

@Jane Ok, I understand that Garmin must have changed something, but in their app they sort it good, so I can see the climbing Vs the descending total distance, and downhill distance. The problem is just on Strava. Honestly for the price I pay as a premium member I would expect that Strava sorts this under the hood reprocessing the data. I don't want to waste my time reaching Garmin support, to say what? that they must fix something because Strava shows it wrong?

It should be Strava to coordinate with Garmin or sort it out, not ask end users to do that for you, especially premium user. You work as a third party app so  in my opinion you should reprocess the data to give a seamless experience and not blame it on the device used for recording the activity.

I do not have the  "Ski Mode Auto Pause" on my device, but I do have a auto-run which should do the same. But as I said on Garmin connect I see the right stats so is not their problem.

@pgurzi Excellent response, thank you.

@JaneI am also a subscriber. It is clear that this is broken on the Strava side so a bit of development effort is required rather than pushing back. Is there a ChangeRequest or DefectRequest raised against the Dev team for this? If there is then please share it. If there is not then please raise one and confirm back to us here.

...and please stop these stupid climbing best lists for ski lifts.
this is just stupid!
a further proof that strava misinterprets the data although it is correctly delivered to strava by various other devices and apps!

Totally agree and then I get a notice from Strava with a PR for a lift ride 😂
