I like that I can add parts like wheel, chain etc. to my bike an get the kilometers I used them.

As winter is coming I'll use my bike on a wheel on trainer (Tacix).
Therefore I change the rear tire to a special one and the front tire for sure will not get any kilometers on.
In spring/summer I'll put back the current rear tire and keep going with the front tire.

So therefore it would be nice to stop/pause the usage of parts and then just activate it again.
So the used kilometers on this part are still correct.

Would be very useful feature for people living in winter lands like Finland where you have half of the year different tyres. I would like to also have maintenance tracking ability and reminder to do maintenance eg. after 10 000km for some parts etc.

Very good idea - actually strange that it has not yet been developed

Hi people. I mailed support team for one of the features requested in this thread, and they sent me to CommunityHub to post about it. I saw previously this post and moderator pointed to continue here. So here I am.

This was my email with the problem:

Subject: Retirement date of a bike component

It seems that I cannot change the retirement date of a bike component, so "Removed" date in Components table column is always the exact date when you clicked the "Retire" button/link. I think that there is no reason that this "retirement date" (actually, the current date) fits the real retirement date (when you remove the component from your bike), that could occur a long time ago, and for this reason, the accumulated km by the retired component could be wrong at table record. I think that it should be enable the edition of retirement components, in order to save the correct retirement date (or anything else).

For instance, this is my Components table for a bike:

FerMadC_2-1720635740265.png

In the past, I forgot to register some components that were removed several months ago. I wanted to register them on the table to have an historic record of my old components. You can see, the removed component "Pedals" added "Since Beginning" and "Removed" on "2 Jul 2024"... because I clicked on "Retire" button on 02/07/2024. BUT the real removal date was on 29/11/2023, as you can see on the current "Pedals" (I quit the old and install the new at the same day). So, the "Distance" saved for the old removed pedals is incorrect, because system is basing its calculation on an incorrect removal date. The correct distance for removed pedals would be 2,563.2 km (since the beginning) - 1,654.2 km (since new pedals) = 909 km.

I hope that the design team will implement this feature, as also the one which opened this thread.

Thanks, best regards.

It would be great to have components per bike to monitor wear as I always forget how many miles I have done on my chain, rear and front rings.

When you change your chain , select your bike and then select component renew. Then it starts the component milage counter.  As part of your ride summary it would be great to see the bike you have rode and then the component milage counter.

You can manage components in the web version in Settings/My gear. There you can see the mileage of each bike too.

Need this feature to make the gear tracking actually work for swapping components and gear.

Would love to see this. Was about to raise a similar suggestion, but found your's had already covered what I was going to ask for. Regularly swapping out different components to change the bike for a particular ride or goal, then eventually those components go back on at a later stage. Would be great to be able to "toggle" components on/off bike, rather than have to retire them.

This thread started two years ago, but nothing happened since then albeit it’s such an obvious feature which should be easy to implement. Only the prices increased by 20% or so. Not the only one, but one of the reason why I cancelled my subscription. IMO premium pricing should come with a premium product and Strava should listen to their users. It seems this isn’t always the case.

This is a Great Idea @Logi - surprised we haven't seen it implemented yet!

I'll add My 2c also, in that 'paused' or 'retired' parts should go into a general 'bucket' where they can be 'restored' to any of the 'bikes' in your Gear List.

I routinely 'upcycle' worn-out enduro tires onto my Hard Tail and run them until they are slicks...
Less frequently I'll swap wheels sets / crank sets / chainrings / pedals / bars / stems etc... between the 4 bikes.

This is a feature I'd like to see implemented as well. As a designer it is rather surprising that such an oversight made it into the implementation of the gear functionality as is. Sadly I don't have much hope for this improvement in what I imagine is less utilized part of the service (maybe because of its issues?) when dark mode took years to be included in the mobile app.
