Recently, a friend of mine started with hula hooping as a core-strengthening training. She noticed however that hula-hooping is as of yet, not available as a selectable training option. We consider this as a dissapointing discovery, given the long history and intercultural importance of this activity. For instance, hula-hooping has been covered in 39 languages in wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hula_hoop). In comparison, a selectable strava activity such as pilates only has 38 language entries: (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pilates). If pilates is deemed a strava-worthy activity; then Hula-hooping should be as well!

As of yet, not many studies have investigated the fitness benefits of Hula-hooping, but the few studies that did, find significant fitness benefits compared to controls, further strengthening our stance that Hula-hooping is a viable exercize, see:

https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/25268284/

https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/31216547/

So, in short: please add Hula-hooping as a selectable activity in Strava. It would make the world a tiny bit of a better place.

Thanks for submitting your idea to add Hula Hooping as a Sport Type. It has been reviewed by our moderation team and is now open to voting.

We recommend using "Workout" for all activities that aren't supported on Strava in the meantime.

I understand the input but if we include every sport, at some point it's just too many.
