Please create a new sport type for activities to be logged as
1: Spin Bike (peloton / nordictrack, etc)
2: Trainer Bike (Non Smart)

Strava doesn't allow "dumb" trainer activities to be logged as Virtual because to be counted as virtual they must have fake GPS data (or maybe it's because of a sweet zwift partnership).

Understandably, virtual rides that mimic real world gps data shouldn't compete with those leaderboard, because yes, they are different, there is no traffic, wind, etc... That's why virtual rides shouldn't be categorised as rides. I don't understand the argument that non-gps virtual rides shouldn't be counted as virtual rides, since they lack gps data, they're not going to be competing on segments. This argument works in one direction, but that doesn't make it work in the other.

Anyways, I've seen many having issues since Strava made this blanket rule, so if you are unwilling to allow non-gps trainer and virtual rides count as such, can you please create a separate sport type for basic-trainers, and for spin bikes?

I recently started indoor cycling and have been perplexed by the lack of it as an option. I have to put Spinning on my Fitbit and now have a mixture of ride and virtual ride on my profile (that I can no longer edit!) and it's just a mess. It's annoying also seeing 0 for elevation gain. I would appreciate it if Strava included Spinning/Indoor Cycling as an option to make things clear.

I have noticed though that on desktop, you can edit a bike ride and tag it as indoor cycling, but this feature isn't shown in the app!

I was going to make the same request.  Spinning could be a category of its own with its own default bike and should add into the overall cycling class in the same way that things like road, gravel etc

As a further point.  Please allow spin sessions to have distance added to them, not all spin bikes give this data.
I record my spin sessions via an Apple Watch for heart rate, I’d like to add the data from the display on the bike to the workout record.

Wahoo SYSTM recently stopped uploading rides as "virtual" and switched to "indoor" because of the "no virtual rides without GPS" policy. You can't tell that a ride is indoor in the mobile app (only on the web). And you can't set a default bike for "indoor" to correctly attribute your miles to the right bike. Please make indoor a first class citizen like virtual.

Lets get on this already. I am not using this platform for my virtual / indoor rides because I dont want it to mess up my metrics, why am I paying for it when it won't work how I want and I have to not use it to stop it from messing things up?

I second this suggestion. It doesn't really make sense to classify indoor rides on a spin or generic exercise bike as "virtual" when you're not using the virtual ride screen. It's weird there is a virtual ride option and not also and "indoor ride" option to cover all indoor rides on a stationary bike. Like either allow manual selection of virtual ride or just change the label to "stationary bike" to cover all types of stationary bikes both smart and dumb.

Please provide a cycling activity to cover indoor rides without GPS, so that the users can distinguish between real rides and stuctured training in apps like Wahoo Systm or trainer road. Just like gravel and mountain bike.

OMG - so Strava does not even have Spinning as a activity.

How can it be this hard to add new sports? You are also missing one of the Worlds popular outdoor and indoor sports: VOLLEYBALL / beach volleyball.

Seriously considering ending Strava subscription.

Not having an activity type for stationary bike rides (without GPS) feels like a strange decision. Relegating them to the "workout" type seems sad! Strava's origins are in cycling and indoor training on a bike is almost as old as time itself. It's only recently that we've had virtual rides (with fake GPS) as an option - why no support for other types such as interval training on rollers?

I'm with this mind set also! "It doesn't really make sense to classify indoor rides on a spin or generic exercise bike as "virtual" when you're not using the virtual ride screen. Sadly this wasn't done before the start of another year!

But you all know there is an "Indoor" tag to rides if you edit the activity in the Strava web version?

We know rides can be tagged and it’s not the same. If you drill into the data you will find out that there is a lot you have to do manually to get the statistics right and visualise them.

The introduction of Default Sports was a great time saver.  This was perfect for indoor trainer rides on Zwift with the Virtual Ride type.  However, TrainerRoad (and possibly other indoor training platforms) rides come over as Indoor Cycling which is not an option for Default Sports under a bike in My Gear.  For me, it is the same bike on the same trainer.  Please add this feature if possible.

SO, I found a work-round, that works!

The other night the iFit server was having a brain fart and logged my gym bike ride out by 7 days!  So I looked for a way to adjust the time stamp, given every data point is logged by date/time, I wasn't manually editing the tcx file.

So found Combining Strava GPS (TCX|GPX|FIT) files, exporting GPX files from Garmin Connect, and adding time s... and used the time stamp tool to change the date, but one of the edit options is 'GPS type', and if you select Zwift (or your app of choice, read the '?' info box), it sticks some meta data in and hay presto, virtual ride (with elevation data that gets striped for 'indoors':

Top edited, Bottom original auto import with incorrect date.  Now I'm not going back and changing all my old rides, but will do this going forward, takes 2 mins to export as tcx, run through the tool and re-import!
