Doing an activity at night is totally a diferent thing than doing It during the day. Specially if you are cyclist. You need a diferent logistics ( lights, reflective clothing ) and extra motivation. Only a small group of people are prepared to do that and I think a diferent recognition need to be created in Strava as "Night Local Legend".

While I agree that day and night riding are very different, I don't think that creating a whole new section of leaderboard would be worth it. Firstly, unless you live at the equator, night in winter and night in summer are not the same length. I guess Strava could use weather app to find the sunset time in your location, but with users a little bit every around the globe and all, it would seem kind of impractical to calculate this for each individuals activity. I am however, not a developper, so maybe it would be incredibly easy. I don't know. Secondly, it's true that riding at night is different than daytime riding, but at the end of the day, it's still the same sport. You on your bike. You do need to be more cautious because of visibility and all, but this only really lowers your speed, which impacts KOMs not local legends. There are places that aren't lit which I guess would be harder to venture to so night riders would have less opportunities to ride there, but in a city, there aren't that many. Lastly, I don't have the exact numbers, but it cant be more than 10% of riders who ride often enough at night to need a whole new section of leaderboard. Also since they update to only follow the past 90 days, in winter in the northern hemisphere at least, they would go mostly unused. It just seems like a very niche feature that would be used by a very small minority of brave cyclists. That's just my opinion though, maybe there are way more nocturnal cyclists than most people know. In any case that's all from me.
