I just turned 80, and have been recording my cycling activities on Strava since 2019.  I like to compare my rides with other senior cyclists, and segments allow me to do that.  But, at age 80, I'm still competing segment-wise with 75 year-old cyclists.  My suggestion is to replace the 75+ age group with 75-79, 80-84 and 85-90 age groups.  This will not only make segment standings fairer for those over 79, but will also encourage older competitive cyclists to improve their conditioning.

That's great.  Hope there are enough of us "seniors" to get this suggestion implemented.  Can't see why anyone would object to it.

Good idea if there are enough over 80s

Implementing it might motivate more 80+, and certainly can't hurt.

I am 82 and would like to compare my cycling activities with others in my 80+ group. I would love to see more age groups listed. Even though so far their are only a few responses their are, I am sure, lots of us that feel the same. It took a lot of work for me to find this post, I almost gave up. I bet their are thousands of us out there that feel the same way. I think it is hard for the younger riders to believe their are so many of us 80+ riders out there. I well keep my fingers crossed that we well finally be recognized.

I just turned 80 and need some motivation.  Competing against 70 year olds just doesn't do it.  I want to compete with people over 80.  More and more are turning 80 and having our own age group would be most beneficial and motivate others in that age group.

I can still get PRs on flat roads but it's all about climbing right?

I fully support this idea.

Me and my wife are born in 1954.

Ok, we are "young" (not 80 yet 🙂 ) but we would like to compare

our efforts with the ones of other Strava members

In the UK alone there are more than 1000 active runners, cyclists. Most organisers of competitive events are now recognising these higher age groups. These statistics are inspirational and motivational to all ages.

In Australia also there are many over 80s still cycling and using Strava.

Extending the age groups would be much appreciated.

Adding these age groups very well matches the inclusivity and diversity criterion 👍😉

I agree... active cyclist & strava user at 87 yrs old

At my present age of 86, I find that comparing my Strava performances to those categorised as "over 75" to be somewhat disheartening! To be able to compare my feeble efforts with those in an age group similar to mine would encourage me to be more competitive. To this end, I would request that Srava instigate  groups for 80-85-90- 95-100 year old.

Wholly agree that this would be a worthwhile addition to Strava facilities and would provide a competitive edge to older age classifications.

I can't cycle anymore due to arthritis in my wrists, can't prop myself up on the bars!

Would like age stats to be applied to running as well, I'm 82.
