I am a dragon boat paddler. There are many people on Strava whom I interact with who are also dragon boat paddlers. Actually, some of us met due to a thread elsewhere on the community forum. I wish I had seen this when it went live initially.
What's missing from the conversation is that dragon boat paddling is NOT canoeing. That's the sport a lot of us use to share our activity, but it's not canoeing. There are people who have created segments for dragon boating in our area that appear under "canoe" and it seems there are some kayakers and SUP paddlers also on those. Please make it so we can have a true comparison of our teams' best efforts in practices and races by adding dragon boat as a sport.
The ideal would be to have a tick box for standard and small boats since most of us paddle for teams aligned with the International Dragon Boat Federation. A third for "Festival" boats would cover the non-standard sizes. In our area, for example, we have large, 20-person boats referred to sometimes as tanks because they have a ceremonial head and tail and weigh 800 kg.
Please post this thread on your social media asking for other dragon boaters to log into Strava and vote. We need to show Strava that this is a worth while change! And that dragon boating is a serious sport!
Where do we vote? Not the like button up top I imagine, so where do I go? I'm new to the comunity hub but not new to Strava. Have used Strava for many years for Cycling both outdoors and indoors but today for the first time tried Dragonboating - but found nowhere to log i sadly. Hopefully someone can direct me where to go to vote. Thanks.
Everyone in the community loves it when we have new people participating in the sport.
Indeed. You vote by using the "Kudo" button -- the orange thumb at the top of the page. Once you've voted, please share the link and encourage others to vote. Doesn't matter if they paddle. What matters is getting dragon boat added by Strava.
Until Strava does add it, you can choose to log it as canoe or kayak. I use canoe.
